DEE CHANCE VS. CHRISTY HEMME (Tuxedo match)

One of the lesser-known members of staff in TNA History is Chace Dee the ring announcer, he has a page on Cagematch.net, he has had 3 matches, but luckily for everyone but those that were in attendance, one of them was a dark match. This would all be surprising if not for one of TNA’s more well-known members of the wrestling industry, Vince Russo. If you don’t know him, Google him. There’s enough internet space used on his career, from 1996 onwards especially.

Before the match, Mike Tenay throws us to a video package, but essentially Christy Hemme wants to wrestle. On the preshow, the Director of Operations, Jim Cornette gives in and gives her a match tonight but doesn’t tell her who she will face. It’s heavily implied that he has no idea who she will face. It’s a Tuxedo match though, much like Cornette’s classic with Paul E. Dangerously (here). Also the Voodoo Kin Mafia (formerly the New Age Outlaws in WWF/WWE) are playing the misogynists, because Christy Hemme has to fight for basic respect as a woman in wrestling.

Christy Hemme predictably enters first for her open challenge, as the ring announcer tells us that you have to strip your opponent of their tuxedo to win the match. Remember Dee Chace, well do did Vince Russo in booking this match; known as Big Fat Oily Guy, Dee answers the challenge. Mike Tenay groans at the thought of Hemme winning the match.

Mike Tenay and Don West are on commentary for this match.

FAT OILY GUY VS. CHRISTY HEMME

(Tuxedo match)

TNA Against All Odds 2007 (11th February 2007)

Christy Hemme attacks her opponent from the start, she jumps on Oily Guy’s back as Tenay and West start to hate that this is a humiliation match.

Big Fat Oily Guy (and that’s the only time I’m typing that because it’s a 2-and-a-half minute match) anyway, he throws Hemme overhead but loses his jacket. A forearm and kick send Chace into the corner but he gets out of the way of a charging Hemme. Christy Hemme charges at Oily Guy and removes his shirt, the crowd have already turned on this and I don’t blame them. Oily Guy catches a crossbody but Hemme forearms herself free. Christy Hemme tries a monkey flip for some reason, she can’t drop Chace, but Chace Dee drops her trousers, which I bet he never imagined happening. Another crossbody from Hemme gets caught. Oily Guy slams her down and this match has a strange dynamic. Christy Hemme has more in-ring experience but Chace debuted first. Anyway Oily guy eats shit on a running splash as referee Mark Johnson is moving the clothes out of everyone’s way.

Christy Hemme tries a sunset flip, but Dee Chace sits down. Hemme distracts Mark Johnson and kicks Oily guy low before removing the trousers and ending the match.

WINNER: CHRISTY HEMME

It was a “comedy” humiliation match, it didn’t last long but it felt like a waste of time. People will have paid for this. I think I got it on my Sky subscription at the time but I would still feel ripped off. Avoid at all costs. I have no idea why Hemme kept trying moves that needed momentum against someone visibly twice her size. [DUD] 0/10

After the match, Kip James(the former Billy Gunn) music hits. He says no one in the audience wanted to see Christy Hemme win. He says it comes down to him to give the fans what they want. He teases stripping but rips Christy Hemme’s shirt off instead, to a predictable pop from the crowd before Christy Hemme leaves to the back.

If you’re wondering where the Fight For Respect got Christy Hemme, she had one more PPV appearance in 2007, being a participant in the Queen of the Cage match, but she wasn’t one of the participants that got to have an actual match.
