Before the match, we get a handy video package to recap this feud. They’re putting “Bullet” Bob over like it’s 1978, which is pretty funny. Konnan, Homicide and Machete are the members of LAX tonight. The James Gang is of course the former New Age Outlaws for those new to TNA. LAX make their way out first. Konnan is on the microphone and cuts a promo about how he hates everything and everyone that isn’t LAX. The James Gang and Bullet Bob make their way down the ring. Tenay & West both put over Bob Armstrong being BG James’ 66-year-old father. BG has a microphone too, he says tonight isn’t the night for his prematch schtick, it’s fight night, and it’s about family. Which could be why that theme got pushed more by Vin Diesel the later the Fast and Furious series went on (and on, and on....)
Mike Tenay and Don West are on commentary for this match
LATIN AMERICAN XCHANGE VS. THE JAMES GANG & BOB ARMSTRONG
TNA Destination X (12th March 2006)
Machete & Homicide storm the ring, but they get disposed of quickly as The James Gang keep Bob Armstrong behind them in the corner. Bob Armstrong is targeting Konnan in this match and broke into the business in 1966. Mike Tenay tells us that Bob Armstrong’s boots are literally older than half of the people on TNA’s roster.
The match starts for real with BG James and Machete. They exchange right hands, with James getting the first shot. Machete catches the kick but BG James ducks the clothesline and knocks Machete down with a big boot. Homicide runs into the ring and gets decked, sending LAX back to the floor. Kip James shouts at the referee before going back to his corner so he doesn’t get disqualified. BG brings Homicide back into the ring, Machete hits BG James from the apron and drops to the floor, apparently Homicide got a phantom tag. He hits a spinning back elbow on BG James then snapmares him down and hits a knee drop. Machete tags back in, BG James is close enough for Konnan to assist from the apron as Machete gets some boots in. Kip James and Bob Armstrong get back in the ring, but the referee threatens to disqualify them, allowing LAX to triple team BG James in their corner.
Machete sends BG James off the ropes but whiffs another clothesline. BG James connects with his jabbing combination but Homicide gets back in the ring. The distraction gives Machete time to boot BG James in the head, although I had to wait for Mike Tenay to tell me from commentary because the camera missed it. Kip James gets caught getting into the ring again. Machete claps his hands to fake the tag, which brings Homicide in. LAX work on BG James in their corner again. Homicide hits a neckbreaker in the middle of the ring and covers for 2. Homicide works a front facelock as BG James gets support from the crowd, Homicide hits a knee drop then he taunts Armstrong. BG James is back in the wrong corner, but he counters a tornado DDT, throwing Homicide across the ring. Homicide charges back to BG James but the clothesline is ducked, they butt heads and it’s a double-down.
Kip James gets the tag, knocking down Machete, who also tagged in. Homicide comes back for another shot as Kip is controling the ring. Kip James punches Homicide in the corner after whipping Machete to the opposite side of the ring. Kip James hits a Stinger Splash, but they can’t call it that. He spends too long without checking Homicide and is attacked from behind. BG James neutralises Homicide. This clears the ring for Bullet Bob Armstrong and Konnan. BG James sends Homicide into the announce table, but that means nothing as Bob Armstrong ducks a slapjack shot and connects with a right hand. I shit you not, this wakes the crowd up. Konnan bails to the floor for the pensioner and Bob Armstrong sends Konnan into the ring steps. Armstrong connects with a right hand, Konnan falls across the announce table as Homicide’s head is sent into a chair at ringside. Bob Armstrong connects with more right hands as Don West cheers him on, nice to have impartial announcers.
Machete and B.G James are back in the ring and it almost resembles a match as James counters an irish whip into a Pumphandle Slam attempt. Homicide brings a chair into the ring, but “Bullet” bob is right behind him. They fight over the steel chair until BG James kicks it back into Homicide’s face. B.G James and his dad throw Homicide over to the floor, Kip James slides in the ring, so Machete is alone with the James Gang (& Dad. Machete goes down fighting, but B.G James blocks the right hand, connecting with one of his own. Machete falls into a right hand from Kip James, Bob Armstrong connects too and that leaves Kip James to hit a Cobra Clutch Slam for the 3 count.
WINNERS: THE JAMES GANG & BOB ARMSTRONG
The right team won, but I since why Kip beat Machete when the story continues past this match. You’re not missing anything by skipping this match, but your grandfather will at least one name on the card. [**] 3/10
