The opening video shows the
background for tonight’s main event (Triple H defending his World Heavyweight Championship
against Goldberg, Shane McMahon defending his family’s honor against Kane in a
Last Man Standing match, and Randy Orton trying to cement his legacy against
Shawn Michaels in a Legend vs. Legend Killer match. We are welcomed to the show
by JR and King, JR says “We’re here to commentate, and we’re here to fight!”
which is why he has his lucky Sooners jersey on tonight.
To win this match you have to put all of your
opponents through a table. Spike Dudley is out of this match due to an injury
he got 2 weeks previous, La Resistance failed to put Spike through a table,
injuring his neck. A week later Rob Conway beat Spike in a match forced on
Spike by Eric Bischoff. The Dudleyz enter first, La Resistance and Conway of course
have a French flag so pretty much anyone could be faces.
Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” are on commentary for this match. Lillian Garcia is our ring announcer.

& ROB CONWAY VS. THE DUDLEY BOYZ
WWE Unforgiven 2003 (21st September 2003)
The bell rings with
the trio on the outside of the ring. We’re gonna have tags in this tables
match, why not? Rene Dupree starts with D-Von Dudley.
Rene Dupree gets the first shot with a knee to the midsection but D-Von Dudley backs him into the corner with right hands. Dupree reverses an irish whip but is met with a boot in the corner and a facebuster. Rene Dupree backs D-Von into the French team’s corner and tags in Rob Conway who connects with right hands. D-Von reverses an irish whip as the crowd chants for tables. Conway is knocked down with a flying shoulder tackle and a leg drop sets Conway up for another run. Bubba Ray connects with an open-hand strike and grabs Rob Conway, Conway moves before D-Von can connect, turning around into a double clothesline by The Dudley Boyz. Bubba Ray gets the tag and clubbing blows back Conway into the corner. Bubba Ray Dudley hangs him in the ropes, connecting with an overhand chop and more clubs to Conway’s chest. Bubba Ray is sent into the corner but explodes out with a clothesline before knocking La Resistance from the apron. The challengers storm the ring and get stacked up in the corner for a Stinger Splash from Bubba Ray. La Resistance is cleared from the ring before a double flapjack sends Conway to the floor also. Rene Dupree is back in the ring, so tags are optional? I suppose there are no disqualifications so it can be Lucha Rules. He sends Bubba into the champions’ corner and Conway connects with a forearm. Dupree connects with mounted punches as the crowd wants tables. Rob Conway gets the tag, chopping Bubba Ray.
Bubba Ray Dudley fights back with right hands, but the numbers game takes hold as Sylvain Grenier enters the match with stomps and chokes Bubba on the middle rope. Rob Conway gets a cheap shot from the apron, D-Von is stopped by Charles Robinson from helping Bubba Ray. Sylvain gets the tag and La Resistance send Bubba down to the mat. The pyro seems to be hanging around a while. Not Royal Rumble 2000 levels but I’m surprised it’s still here as Dupree hands over to Conway and the fans chant USA. Bubba Ray Dudley is sent off the ropes into a sleeper hold, but he gets out of it with a back suplex and that leads to a double-down. Rene Dupree gets the tag, so does D-Von and he sends Dupree to the mat with clotheslines. D-Von Dudley hits a jumping clothesline then intercepts Rob Conway with a clothesline before he can interfere. Sylvain Grenier is knocked off the apron and Dupree takes a flapjack. D-Von Dudley runs under a clothesline and hits a neckbreaker.
Rene Dupree cuts off the momentum with a clubbing blow to D-Von as
he stands up giving Conway a chance to get some offense. Rob Conway sends D-Von
into the ropes and it allows Bubba to get the blind tag. Rob Conway is lifted
into a back suplex and D-Von hits the elevated neckbreaker. Bubba Ray hits the
scoop slam on Rene Dupree for the Wazzup Headbutt as the referee looks busy.
Bubba tells D-Von to get the tables, with help from the crowd. Conway and
Grenier jump the Dudleyz from behind as the table is set up in the ring, Rene
Dupree grabs a second table and sets it up in the corner. Rob Conway and
Sylvain Grenier send D-Von Dudley across the ring and through the table. La
Resistance picks Bubba Ray up to his feet, he fights back with lefts and rights
so Conway drops him with a neckbreaker before he and Dupree take D-Von to the
floor. Bubba Ray Dudley eats some right hands, he fights back with overhand
chops from his knees and Bubba suplexes Sylvain Grenier through the table. Rob
Conway gets back in the ring, choking Bubba Ray Dudley as Dupree gets another
table. Bubba is sent off the ropes but D-Von moves the table so he’s backdropped
to the mat by La Resistance. Rene Dupree plants D-Von Dudley with a standing
spinebuster but hits Conway with a mis-timed forearm. Bubba Ray Dudley hits the
Bubba Bomb on Rene Dupree, but Rob Conway is next through a table as a front
slam over the top rope sends him through one table and his head bouncing off of
the other! Either Rene Dupree or Bubba Ray has to go through a table for the
match to end,
Sylvain Grenier tries to attack the Dudleyz
with the French flag but misses, Bubba Ray hits his combination of jabs, D-Von
gets a shot with the flag pole! Rene Dupree sets up the table but is sent off
the ropes, A 3-D on Rene Dupree gives The Dudley Boyz the match.
WINNER: THE DUDLEY BOYZ (NEW
WWE World Tag Team Champions)
Just as I was thinking the match was starting to get slow,
they brought the tables into play. The American crowds always like USA vs.
Foreign Heels so that made this a natural fit for a hot opener, too. The
inconsistent rules are a necessary evil, but they will always take me out of a
match slightly. The Dudleyz can do these matches in their sleep though so it was
always going to have a decent standard. [***] 6.25/10
