IVORY (C) VS. TORI

Before the match, Jesse Ventura is backstage with Mankind, Jesse is the Special Referee for tonight’s main event. He tells Mankind that he knows Mankind’s style and he can do anything he needs to in the triple threat but he has to get the pinfall in the ring. They talk about some Political Campaign manager being a bleeding-heart Liberal before we see the Lion’s Den cage for the match later tonight (here) and we get to our entrances. Ivory makes her way out and this began on Heat 2 weeks ago, Ivory wrote slut and Skank on Tori and that’s all the build-up we see or need in this era. Tori runs down to the ring

Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on commentary for this match. Howard Finkel is our ring announcer.

(WWF Women’s Championship) – Stipulation

WWF Summerslam 1999 (22nd August 1999)

Ivory meets Tori with an ax handle to the back as she gets in the ring but is sent off the ropes as JR tells us not to expect many snowflakes at the end of this one.

Tori clotheslines Ivory down and covers but Ivory kicks out straight away and bails to the floor. Ivory drags Tori to the floor by the ankle and rakes her eyes before Tori is sent into the ring post. Ivory snaps Tori’s neck over the top rope as the challenger gets to the apron as we get an update on Al Snow’s dog, Pepper. Yeah, that’s happening at this time, too. Tori is sent off the ropes into a back elbow and Ivory covers for 1. Tori sends Ivory off the ropes into a kick to the midsection, Tori hits a pair of suplexes and she’s no Dynamite Kid but they weren’t terrible. Tori hits a dropkick “to the puppies” as King calls it and she chops Tori back into the corner. Tori reverses an irish whip, Ivory slides between her legs and kicks her in the midsection, and a forearm sets up a long hair pull that looked like a neckbreaker set up, but she holds for the count before hitting a facebuster.

Ivory takes some time before snapmaring Tori over a few times pulling her hair and choking Tori using the middle rope. Ivory breaks then uses the top rope instead before sending Tori to the mat for a leg drop. The fans were chanting “Take it off” because we’re a sophisticated fanbase here. Ivory uses the big swing and slams Tori down for a nearfall. Ivory chops Tori and they mess up an irish whip, with Tori ending up in the corner. Tori recovers and hits a spear out of the corner, JR calls it “Edge-like” and I’m not sure, but it leads to mounted punches. Tori chops Ivory back into the corner and she isn’t much better at giving irish whips, she barely connects with a kick to Ivory’s midsection before the crotch-grab reverse powerbomb (she just continues the rotation, sending Ivory overhead) followed by a nice crossbody from the middle rope for 2.

Ivory reverses an irish whip, she ducks early and Tori brings her down for a sunset flip but Ivory immediately kicks out, looking legitimately pissed off. They try it again, Ivory sits on Tori before she can complete the sunset flip and covers her for the win.

WINNER: IVORY (STILL WWF Women’s Champion)
That was rough. Tori couldn’t do the most basic things in the ring, suplex, spear, crotch-grab powerbomb thing and that’s it. Ric Flair would have struggled to carry her to a respectable match, so Ivory was swimming upstream from the opening bell.  [DUD] 1/10
