Molly Holly makes her way out first and King asks if she’s wearing a football helmet, she has a wig due to losing her hair back at Wrestlemania XX (here). Victoria makes her way out and I’m glad it’s two women that can wrestle.
Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on
commentary for this match, Lillian Garcia is our ring announcer.
MOLLY HOLLY VS. VICTORIA
(#1 contender WWE
Women’s Championship)
WWE Vengeance 2004 (11th July 2004)
They
lock up and Molly Holly takes control of the arm, Victoria is taken down
but cartwheels out and counters into a wristlock of her own.
Molly
Holly escapes using forearms, Victoria does the splits forcing Molly to jump
over her and Molly Holly is sent over to the mat. Victoria slams Molly
but it’s too early for the standing moonsault as Molly Holly rolls her up for
2. Molly Holly works a headlock but gets sent off the ropes, Victoria leapfrogs
then sends Molly to the mat with a hip toss. Molly Holly is sent across the
ring with an arm drag but reverses an irish whip, Victoria jumps to the middle
rope and hits a moonsault for 2, Molly Holly rolls to the outside so Victoria
hits a slingshot plancha and high fives some fans. Molly trips Victoria on the
ring steps so she falls to the floor. They tease a count out and Victoria’s in
at 8, Molly wraps Victoria’s arm around the middle rope before kicking at it.
Molly Holly hits the handspring back elbow, it doesn’t look as good as The Great Muta’s but it gets her a 2 count.
Molly
Holly puts Victoria in a top wristlock and forces her to the mat, keeping the
leverage in the hold. As Victoria tries to work to her feet Molly Holly takes
her down again in an armbar. Victoria tries to crawl to the bottom rope but
Molly drops her knees on Victoria’s left arm (I swear that move used to be a
lot more common) then she goes back to the arm bar. Victoria is allowed to her
feet and she tries to fight back but Molly drops the injured arm across the top
rope. Molly Holly kicks Victoria out of the ring. When Molly drags Victoria
back inside she’s kicked in the head. Molly Holly hits an elbow drop, and it’s
close on the second but I think she misses. Victoria gets a double-leg takedown
into a jackknife cover for 2. Victoria gets another 2 from the backslide and
fires up with right hands.
Molly
Holly is sent off the ropes into a back elbow, Molly kicks Victoria in the
midsection but runs into the powerslam for 2. Victoria can’t lift Molly Holly
for the Widow’s Peak as her shoulder gives out. Molly Holly runs into a
superkick and that’s enough to finish it.
WINNER: VICTORIA (#1
Contender WWE Women’s Championship)
This was a decent enough match,
they both looked comfortable in the ring and made use of the limited time,
Molly’s shoulder work played into the finish but it had to take up the majority
of the match, giving Victoria a sudden comeback like WCW Rey Mysterio Jr.
[**] 4/10
Victoria would get her WWE Women’s Championship match at Unforgiven
(here) since Summerslam needed the all-important Divas vs. Diva Search
contestants Dodgeball segment.
