KWANG VS. RAZOR RAMON

We begin the show with Earthquake challenging Yokozuna to a Sumo match the previous week, that match is later tonight.

Raw Intro!

Vince McMahon welcomes us to Raw and repeats again that Yokozuna and Earthquake will face off tonight. McMahon calls this a martial arts expert against a former WWF Intercontinental Champion. Razor Ramon makes his way out first, Kwang for those who don’t know is Savio Vega under a mask. He makes his way out with Harvey Wippleman, which nicely adds to my tags.

Vince McMahon and Randy Savage are on commentary for this match. Howard Finkel is our ring announcer.

KWANG VS. RAZOR RAMON

(King of the Ring qualifier)

WWF Monday Night Raw (9th May 1994)

The bell rings and they circle, Kwang takes control of the arm as Vince McMahon says that you only get one chance. That wasn’t true the previous year.

Razor Ramon reverses the arm wrench, taking Kwang down in a top wristlock. Kwang makes it to his feet and they trade hammerlocks, Kwang elbows out but is slapped across the face. Kwang cuts off any chance off momentum with a knee to the midsection and clubs at Ramon. Kwang takes a shot at Ramon’s throat. Kwang introduces Razor Ramon to the top turnbuckle before kicks and chops in the corner. Razor Ramon fires back with shots of his own but the irish whip is reversed. Razor Ramon counters a hip toss into one of his own and clotheslines Kwang out to the floor. Kwang keeps getting back to the apron and Ramon knocks him back down. Kwang goes to the apron for the fourth time and evades Razor Ramon before snapping his neck off the top rope and getting back in the ring. Kwang boots Razor Ramon as we see a double-feature of what just happened. Kwang kicks Razor Ramon in the jaw before spitting some mist. Vince McMahon calls it psychological warfare as Razor Ramon is sent off the ropes, he stops his momentum and brings Kwang down into a backslide for a nearfall.

Kwang gets the first shot in as they get to their feet, he chokes Ramon in the corner before the referee has a word. Kwang goes back to kick Ramon in the midsection. Razor Ramon is sent into the corner but Kwang charges into the ring post. Razor Ramon starts to target the shoulder, barging Kwang down to the mat and hitting a leg drop before keeping him on the mat with an armbar. Kwang makes it to his feet and sends Razor Ramon off the ropes, but gets caught under a running crossbody for a nearfall. Razor Ramon goes back to the shoulder with an arm wrench, he puts on a knuckle lock and gets some extra pressure before bringing Kwang down on one knee with an arm breaker across Ramon’s shoulder. Razor Ramon is sent off the ropes, he ducks the back elbow but not the spinning heel kick! Kwang tries to get feeling back in his arm and takes some shots at Razor Ramon before putting on a chinlock. Vince McMahon mentions that Razor Ramon is bleeding and if it gets too graphic they will switch to wide shots because there are kids watching. If you need proof that kids ruin everything, there it is. Kwang gets some free shots at Ramon from above and puts him in a nerve hold. Razor Ramon gets to his feet and backs Kwang into the corner, knees to the midsection from Ramon

Razor Ramon sends Kwang off the ropes but ducks into a kick to the face that looked like a miscommunication. Kwang takes some overhand shots at Ramon as he makes it to his feet. Razor Ramon fights back with right hands but Kwang hits a facebuster as we go to commercial as Kwang goes for the cover. We return with Razor Ramon fighting out of a chinlock, so it was a 2 count at best. Razor Ramon fires off right hands, he backs into the ropes to get some momentum and barely ducks a spinning kick from Kwang. Razor Ramon hits the chokeslam, he covers but only gets 2. Razor Ramon connects with a right hand, he blocks Kwang’s attack and hits another. Kwang’s kick is blocked and he’s knocked down with a discus right hand. Kwang is perched on the top rope but he knocks Ramon back with a back elbow. Kwang hits a crossbody from the middle rope but Razor Ramon rolls through 1, 2, no! Kwang hits a superkick before it was overdone and covers but only gets 2. Kwang keeps the offense on Razor Ramon as they gets to their feet and he irish whips Razor Ramon across the ring. Ramon comes back with a kneelift but can’t get Kwang up for the Razor’s Edge as McMahon says the match has taken too much out of him.

Kwang goes back to the irish whip, Ramon grabs the top rope and Kwang eats shit on the spinning kick. The Razor’s Edge connects and Razor Ramon qualifies for his second King of the Ring.

WINNER: RAZOR RAMON

This was a good match until the finish. The crowd were behind Razor Ramon and Kwang actually looked like a threat during the match, which surprised me watching the match years later. That being said it was an average TV match with what looked like a botched ending. [*¾] 3/10
