We begin with the introductionvideo to WWF Superstars. Sean Mooney is the first person shown, he has something from Luna Vachon’s dressing room. She appears and threatens to rip his heart out like she did Sherri Martel before cutting an Ultimate Warrior-like promo.
Vince McMahon
welcomes us to Superstars as The Undertaker makes his way to the raised
interview platform with Paul Bearer. Raymond Rougeau calls Undertaker
unstoppable, Paul Bearer confirms this and calls Undertaker the most powerful
entity in the WWF. Undertaker cuts a promo on Giant Gonzalez continuing the feud
and threatening to take the giant’s soul. ‘Taker challenges Giant Gonzalez to a
match where Gonzalez will suffer. Who wouldn’t agree to that?
The Smokin’ Gunns call out the tag team division in a short
vignette before Doink the Clown makes his way out for the first ever King of
the Ring qualifying match, it has a 15-minute time limit with only the winners advancing.
Mr. Perfect makes his way out and we have a match.
Vince McMahon, Jerry “The King” Lawler and Randy Savage are
on commentary for this match.
DOINK THE CLOWN VS.
MR. PERFECT
(King of the
Ring qualifier)
WWF Superstars (1st May 1993)
Doink the Clown jumps Mr. Perfect from behind
and sends him ino the ring steps. Mr. Perfect tries to crawl away, but gets
sent into the ring and Doink chops him back into the corner. Doink connects
with punches and snapmares Perfect out of the corner, but misses the knee drop.
Mr. Perfect trips Doink and drops down
on the knee, Perfect places Doink’s ankle on the bottom rope and cannonballs on
to it as Lawler complains about using the ropes. A chop sends Doink over to the
floor, Earl Hebner starts to count but Perfect breaks it to send Doink’s
head into the steps and connect with another chop before bringing it back in
the ring. Mr. Perfect goes back to Doink’s injured leg and falls on Doink with
a headbutt to the midsection. Mr. Perfect kicks at Doink’s leg as Savage makes
the bold claim that the King of the Ring tournament is as prestigious as the
WWF Championship. Doink holds the bottom rope and Mr. Perfect has to back away
before 5, Doink escapes to the apron but is brought back to the ring with one
clubbing blow. Mr. Perfect knocks Doink down with a knee lift, so the clown
goes to the floor for a breather as we go to the break.
As we return, it’s Perfect on the floor and
McMahon explains he ran into the ring post during the commercials. Doink has
gotten back in the ring, he climbs to the top rope and hits an ax handle to the
floor as we go to an interview with Crush. Except it’s not Crush that
shows up on screen, it’s another Doink! McMahon asks him how he can be there
and Doink calls it an illusion. The Doink present for the match brings Mr.
Perfect back into the ring and Perfect seems to have hurt his back, Doink sends
Mr. Perfect into the ropes and hits him with a forearm to the kidneys before
cannonballing on his back. Doink the clown hits a suplex and begins to laugh,
giving Perfect time to rest. Doink goes to the top rope and hits another ax
handle. Mr. Perfect tries to fight back to his feet with right hands, he’s sent
off the ropes but ducks Doink’s punch, Mr. Perfect connects with a right hand
and a chop. Mr. Perfect gets another right, but Doink responds in kind so
Perfect rolls him up for 2. Mr. Perfect struggles for a backslide but brings Doink
down for another 2 count. Doink the Clown sends Perfect off the ropes, Mr.
Perfect slides over Doink’s back and rolls him up with an O’Conor roll for
another 2. It looked like they messed it up though, he was down for a long time.
Mr. Perfect hits a back suplex and covers,
this time it’s definitely 2. They exchange more strikes and Doink reverses the irish
whip but ducks too early, Mr. Perfect hits the Perfectplex as the time expires.
TIME LIMIT DRAW
This was a very basic match, it didn’t feel as long as the 11 minutes shown, but they didn’t make much use of the time. It’s a missable match, which sucks for me to say about any Mr. Perfect match. [*] 1.5/10
