For those who don’t know, Jimmy Hart is a long-time manager in wrestling who took a lot of bumps for his clients, and also a friend of Hulk Hogan, so when Hogan moved to a company you could set a timer for the announcement of Hart’s arrival, amongst others.
Before the match, Mike Awesome is backstage with Mean Gene Okerlund.
Mike Awesome debuted 6 days previously on Nitro whilst still the ECW Champion.
He’s the surprise entrant in the United States Championship tournament and will
be facing Ernest “The Cat” Miller in the quarterfinal. We’ll see about that.
Mike Awesome says he’ll take all 9 of The Cat’s lives. Bam Bam Bigelow interrupts
the interview and the confrontation leads to Awesome attacking Bigelow from
behind.
Jimmy Hart makes his way out with Hail as Tony tells everyone
that Mancow is a famous shockjock on radio in Chicago. Jimmy is wearing a
Howard Stern t-shirt, laying it on thick as he calls Mancow a Stern wannabe. Mancow
has an entourage to lead him to the ring and one of the women trips on the
ramp, the theme tune completely drowns out the announce team. Mancow calls
Jimmy Hart a piece of shit before going for the cheap pop by naming the city.
He thanks Eric Bischoff for allowing him to be there to avenge Hart
attacking him in the studio.
Mark Madden, Scott Hudson and Tony Schiavone are on
commentary.
JIMMY HART VS. MANCOW
WCW Spring Stampede 2000 (16th April 2000)
Mancow jumpstarts the match and throws Hart down.
Mancow lays in (shitty) right hands and
they roll around like a catfight as Mark Madden does his Joey Styles
impression. Hail gets on the apron, and Mancow flips him the bird. So far I’m
putting that down as his finisher. The distraction gives Jimmy Hart a chance to low
blow Mancow and he takes him down with what I think was supposed to be a
clothesline. Jimmy Hart fails to show Mancow how to throw hands before some
choking. Jimmy Hart slams Mancow down, kind of, but bless Scott Hudson for
trying to call this straight. Hart kicks at Mancow and takes some time getting
to the top rope. He hits a splash, but Mancow pulled the referee in the way.
That must have been what the match was missing. A fucking ref bump. Mancow
brings Jimmy Hart down and lays in a right hand before choking Hart, which is
at least consistent with the prematch promo. Hail decides enough is enough and
grabs Mancow, military press slamming him over the top rope onto his entourage.
Hail sends Mancow back into the ring as Jimmy Hart sends Hail away. One of the entourage
hands Mancow a chair that he brought with him.
Mancow hits Jimmy Hart across the back with
the chair and covers for the win.
WINNER: MANCOW
Fuck this match. If you cut this and a few more filler segments
you can get a tight 2 ½ hours. But it got me the tag for Jimmy Hart. [DUD] 0/10
Billy Kidman makes his way out and he decks Jimmy Hart, Billy
Kidman lays in boots to Jimmy Hart as he’s sending a message to Hulk Hogan. Mark
Madden mentions that Jimmy and Kidman faced off on the previous Thunder and I might
get that match done next year if I can bring myself to.
