BUTCH REED VS. KOKO B. WARE

Before the match, Bobby Heenan and Andre the Giant are interviewed by “Mean” Gene Okerlund about the main event. The Brain says that Andre will win tonight’s main event will win because he is undefeated in 15 years, and Hulk Hogan hasn’t been in the ring with someone like Andre. Both claims have since been disproven. “you had three good years” was a great line though.

Slick is introduced first, he’s in Butch Reed’s corner for this match and they’re already in the ring. Koko B. Ware makes his way out with Frankie the parrot on the motorised ring cart. Ventura says Frankie would make a good soup. Koko B Ware looks like he’s wearing a foil jacket and trousers over his tights, we get a quick shot of Jesse Ventura’s biceps before The Fink does the introductions.

Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura are on commentary for this match. Howard Finkel is our ring announcer.

BUTCH REED VS. KOKO B. WARE

WWF WrestleMania 3 (29th March 1987)

They circle before locking up, Reed backs Koko B. Ware into the ropes, Koko ducks the right hand and gets the crowd behind him.

They lock up again and Butch Reed complains of hair-pulling as he’s backed into the ropes. Koko B Ware breaks clean and the referee has a word about the phantom hair pull. Butch Reed backs Koko into the ropes and connects with strikes before sending B. Ware across the ring. Koko B. Ware ducks the back elbow, Reed catches the crossbody attempt, but Koko is able to scramble over and land on his feet. Butch runs to the ropes to get out of the O’Conor roll, but Koko B Ware rolls to his feet and catches Reed by surprise with a dropkick sending him over to the floor. Butch Reed takes some time to talk to Slick on the floor before getting back in the ring, Koko B. Ware irish whips Reed and connects with a right hand. Koko B. Ware sends Reed across the ring but he ducks too early. Butch clubs him down, Butch Reed puts Koko in a headlock and uses his body to block the referee’s vision as he jabs Koko in the throat. After a quick talk with the referee, Reed lays in the boots. Butch Reed sends Koko B. Ware’s head into the top turnbuckle but he gets sent into the corner as Koko reverses the irish whip. Reed stumbles out into a hip toss. Koko B. Ware connects with a series of jabs and a dropkick before covering, but he doesn’t hook the leg and only gets 2. Butch Reed no-sells a rake to the face, and rakes at B. Ware, which I find justified.

Butch Reed is caught in a small package but kicks out at 2. Butch Reed reverses an irish whip and Koko B Ware comes back with a crossbody, Reed rolls through and grabs the tights! 1, 2, 3!

WINNER: BUTCH REED

This was a short, meaningless match that got a popular lower-card guy on the show. Nothing special but it was kept under 4 minutes. [*] 2/10
