TED DIBIASE VS. DON MURACO

 Beforethe next match “Mean” Gene Okerlund is backstage with Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth. Macho Man says Hulk Hogan was robbed, but now nothing will stop him winning the WWF Championship. Don Muraco makes his way down with “Superstar” Billy Graham. Ted DiBiase is alone after the previous match (here) Jesse Ventura and Gorilla Monsoon are on commentary fot this match

 

TED DIBIASE VS. DON MURACO

(Tournament Quarterfinal)

WWF Wrestlemania 4 (27th March 1988)

  Don Muraco starts the match with DiBiase on the apron, sending his head into the top turnbuckle, he brings DiBiase in the ring and the bell rings. Muraco knocks Ted down with a clothesline and hits an elbow drop. DiBiase is sent into the ropes and runs into a powerslam for the first nearfall. Muraco’s irish whips are strange as he sends DiBiase across the ring into a back elbow, he hits a chop from the middle rope and covers for 2. Ted DiBiase tries to get out of the ring but is sent into the top turnbuckle, Muraco snapmares DiBiase down and follows with a neck snap. Ted DiBiase begs off into the corner, but Muraco brings him out of the corner and slams him to the mat. He connects with a dropkick and covers, but still only gets 2. DiBiase rolls to the outside, but Billy Graham tells him to get back inside. DiBiase is hit from behind by Muraco as he gets back in the ring and gets sent into the corner. Ted DiBiase counters a second alley-oop, sending Muraco ino the turnbuckle.

  He starts stomping and choking in the corner, but stops before he’s disqualified. Muraco’s head s sent into the turnbuckle, DiBiase decks Muraco with a clothesline and coves but only gets a nearfall. Muraco is sent off the ropes into a knee to the midsection, DiBiase hits a fist drop and covers, Muraco has his foot on the ropes and the referee notices at 2. Ted DiBiase goes back to chokes and takes the warning from the referee. He lets Muraco get to his feet and chops him against the ropes. Don Muraco is sent off the ropes, but boots DiBiase, who goes to the eyes to cut off momentum. Ted DiBiase slams Muraco but misses an elbow drop from the middle rope. Muraco gets in some right hands and sends DiBiase into the corner, following with a clothesline. Ted DiBiase begs off againand gets a cheap shot. Muraco puts on a headlock but is sent off the ropes. He knocks Ted DiBiase down with a shoulder tackle but gets caught with the Stun Gun, Ted DiBiase covers for the win.

WINNER: TED DIBIASE

This match didn’t get out of first gear, they only had 5 minutes and put two begging off spots in. It wasn’t as good as it could have been, even on a huge card, disappointing but it was part of the all-night story. [* ½]  2/10
