Before the match, hosts Tony Schiovane and Eric Bischoff throw us to Missy Hyatt, who has an interview with Harley Race, he hypes up Lex Luger for tonight’s main event, claiming that Luger’s in the best shape of his life. Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura are on commentary for this match. There’s also a 20-minute time limit, but I can’t see that being an issue. Cactus Jack makes his way out first, Ventura says JR would vote for Cactus as President referencing a sign. Ron Simmons saves us from the small talk with his entrance and JR goes into Football mode.
CACTUS JACK VS.
RON SIMMONS
WCW Superbrawl II (29th February 1992)
They lock up, Simmons backs Cactus
Jack into the corner, but Jack fights back with strikes. They slug it out and Ron Simmons backs Jack into the corner before sending him across the ring.
Simmons runs into the boot in the corner, Cactus Jack charges but catches his
neck in the ropes. Ron Simmons takes some shots at Cactus Jack before releasing
the ropes. Ron Simons stops Cactus Jack from making his way into the crowd, Cactus
Jack’s head meets the guard rail before they bring it back to the ring. Cactus
Jack connects with a kick and sends Simmons off the ropes but is caught with a
facebuster. A slam and a leg drop get Simmons a nearfall. Ron Simmons sends
Cactus Jack into the corner but runs into a back elbow, Jack knocks Simmons
down with a clothesline and we see Junkyard Dog in the crowd, wearing a
white tuxedo. Cactus Jack hits the Double-arm DDT and a legdrop for a nearfall.
Cactus Jack sends Simmons through the ropes and hits his head against the
guardrail “returning the favour” as Ventura points out.
Cactus Jack slams Simmons on the floor and climbs to the middle rope for the elbow drop. Jack waits for his opponent in the ring and snaps his neck off the top rope. Ron Simmons fights to his feet, an irish whip sends Cactus Jack into the ropes but he holds on, causing Simmons to eat shit on a dropkick. Cactus Jackcovers but doesn’t hook the leg and only gets 2. He puts Simmons in a chinlock, but Ron Simmons is able to get to his feet and breaks the hold taking Cactus Jack over. Cactus Jack is sent off the ropes into a dropkick by Simmons. Ron Simmons takes a 3-point stance but charges between the ropes onto the rampway. Ron Simmons takes a walk to shake off the cobwebs, Cactus Jack follows but runs into a standing Spinebuster! Ron Simmons throws Jack’s corpse into the ring, but Cactus Jack starts to fight back, raking the eyes of Simmons. Ron Simmons is sent from corner to corner and Cactus Jack hits the bulldog. He goes back to the top rope but is caught in a Powerslam, Ron Simmons covers for the 3!
WINNER: RON SIMMONS
This match was OK, but it didn’t seem to lead anywhere within the match. The post match stuff was a great addition, but the match was just there. It honestly felt like a waste of the Spinebuster on the rampway and hangman spot, no one seemed to care too much for the match except Jim Ross. [*¾] 3/10
Abdullah the Butcher walks down the rampway to the ring, he
hits Ron Simmons from behind! He’s back teaming with Cactus Jack. Junkyard Dog
is seen making his way through the crowd. He evens the odds, throwing right
hands at Cactus Jack, Abdullah eats some shots too, JYD headbutts Abdullah and
the heels bail as JR with the line of the night “just like fightin’ in the Hood!”
