This is the fourth Inferno match in WWE history. John “Bradshaw” Layfield and Michael Cole are on commentary for this match. JBL says he just wouldn’t put himself through an Inferno match, whilst plugging his career. Tony Chimel is in the ring with the fire already going, this could go terribly. MVP makes his way out first. Someone has an “all I want for Christmas is an Inferno match” sign. I’m not sure if they’ve seen one before. This started as MVP signed for Smackdown and beat some local workers, so he asked Teddy Long for some competition, so he got competition in the form of Kane. MVP was able to squeak out victories over Kane on Smackdown in a normal match, a street fight in the UK and a steel cage match. Kane enters, he’s the only man who has been in all the Inferno matches in WWE history, he smirks on his way to the ring and his arm movement pyro makes the flames jump. Who says wrestling isn’t based on reality?
MONTEL VONTAVIOUS PORTER VS. KANE (Inferno match)
WWE Armageddon 2005 (17th
December 2006)
The flames jump as MVP tries to back off from Kane, backing
him into the middle of the ring. He tries to beg off but gets booted in the face
by Kane. MVP is sent into the corner, softened up with a strike and sent across
the ring. Kane charges into MVP’s boot, MVP climbs to the top rope but bails
and walks into another shot from Kane. MVP is sent off into the ropes into a
backdrop and the commentary act amazed as the flames keep jumping. Kane tries
to drag MVP towards the flame, then sends him into the corner, Bret Hart
style before knocking him down with a clubbing blow. Kane picks up MVP’s ankles
so they’re in a wheelbarrow, MVP crawls to the corner and climbs up the ropes only
to get dropped on his face by Kane. Kane perches MVP on the top rope, he climbs
up to meet MVP but is sent down to the floor as the flames jump behind MVP. MVP
hits a crossbody and starts wailing shots on Kane. MVP hits a boot in the
corner and knocks Kane down with a clothesline. Kane sits up! Kane and MVP
start exchanging strikes as JBL says you have to go toe to toe with Kane in
this situation, no matter the outcome. Although the outcome here is being set
on fire, so I’m not sure. MVP kicks Kane in the midsection, then takes some
shots at his hamstring, but gets some momentum off the ropes and runs into a
big boot.
Kane hits a Chokeslam
in the middle of the ring and removes the turnbuckle pad, he sets it on fire and
stalks MVP, but gets cut off with a shot to the ribs. MVP throws the turnbuckle
pad out of the ring after almost landing on it, and it’s able to put itself out
by the time it lands. MVP hits Kane with knees into a neckbreaker. MVP
dropkicks Kane, edging him closer to the flames, but Kane is able to move out
of the way, MVP is millimetres from getting burned as he scrambles back to his
feet, turning around into a clothesline from Kane. MVP is sent into the corner,
Kane unloads lefts and rights then sends him across the ring. Kane hits a
corner clothesline as JBL wonders what’s happened to Smackdown now they’re lighting
each other on fire. Kane his another clothesline in the corner and plants MVP
with a sidewalk slam. Kane sends MVP into the corner again, toying with him and
slapping him around.
MVP gets a shot in on Kane but scales the
ropes again, Kane pushes him from the top rope to the floor and the announce
table breaks MVP’s fall. Kane climbs to the top rope, sending himself into MVP
on the floor. Kane puts MVP on his shoulder and they tease some fire, MVP slips
out the back, tries to move Kane in a waistlock but Kane counters into one of
his own. MVP breaks out of it but takes a nap as he’s booted in the face. MVP tries
to escape under the ring but Kane brings him to his feet and hits him with a
right hand. MVP tries to run around ringside but Kane grabs him by the throat,
he forces MVP back into the flames ending the match.
WINNER: KANE
This was another match where they were limited by the
flames, but they still had access to the ropes. MVP worked well as a chickenshit
through the match, getting cheap shots in where he could as he bounced around
for Kane. Kane finally got a win over the newcomer in his type of match and
they did the best they could. [*¾] 4/10.
