EARTHQUAKE VS. HULK HOGAN

 Roddy Piper and Vince McMahon are on commentary for this match. Earlier in the night Sean Mooney was backstage with Earthquake, Dino Bravo, and Jimmy Hart. They play Hulk Hogan getting attacked and doing the stretcher job. Earthquake says there will be an extra stretcher for Big Bossman tonight, Dino Bravo says he will be there to take care of Bossman and Jimmy Hart seconds the comments on the stretchers. Earthquake makes his way out first with The Mouth of the South and Dino Bravo. “Mean” Gene Okerlund is backstage with Hulk Hogan and Big Bossman, Hogan says he remembers the attack from Earthquake, but he also remembers the swell of support he got afterwards led by Tugboat. Big Bossman makes up a new Bill of Rights for his opponents. Earthquake is introduced by The Fink, then Big Bossman enters to his own music. Hulk Hogan makes his way out to the ring

 

EARTHQUAKE VS. HULK HOGAN

WWF Summerslam 1990 (27^th August 1990)

 

The bell rings and Earl Hebner speaks to both participants, as well as Bravo who is waiting on the apron. They lock up and Hulk Hogan shoves Earthquake back, but only a few inches. They lock up and Earthquake shoves Hogan back across the ring, he gets straight back to his feet and into a lock up but Hogan loses that one too. McMahon guesses Hogan weighs about 290lbs giving Earthquake a decent weight advantage at 400lbs. Earthquake is put in a headlock, he lifts Hogan with one arm before sending him off the ropes into a shoulder block. Hulk Hogan takes a break on the outside, talking to Bossman as Jimmy Hart screeches at ringside and a young Melina writes it down as a gimmick idea. They go to lock up again and Hogan kicks Earthquake in the midsection, Hogan rakes the eyes and connects with right hands, but Earthquake blocks the slam by way of being too heavy and starts clubbing Hogan across the back repeatedly and sending him across the ring into the turnbuckles. Earthquake clubs Hogan in the chest and sends him back to the original corner. Hulk Hogan lifts his boot up as Earthquake charges him and the clothesline connects but Earthquake is still on his feet. Right hands and chops still don’t knock Earthquake down, Hulk Hogan hits the ropes for another right hand, and Earthquake staggers, Bravo and Hart jump on the apron but are quickly disposed of. Earthquake eats another right hand and it drops him as the crowd explodes!

  Earthquake bails to ringside and talks to Dino Bravo, Hogan follows him to the floor and attacks Bravo from behind as Big Bossman cuts off Earthquake. Bravo is sent in the ring first, followed by the guy actually in the match. The referee ignores a pair of double Big Boots from Bossman and Hogan before telling Bossman to leave the ring.Hogan bites Earthquakes forehead then connects with right hands, but Dino Bravo attacks him from behind, double scoop slam from Earthquake and Bravo, Earthquake hits the ropes to gain momentum for an elbow drop and stays there for a cover but Hogan kicks out at 2. Earthquake climbs to the top rope and clubs Hogan across the back, then stomps on each hand before Hogan is locked in a boston crab, he eventually reaches the rope, forcing the break. Hulk Hogan escapes to ringside but Dino Bravo slams him before sending him back into the ring as Hebner is distracted with Bossman and Earthquake on the other side of the ring. Earthquake slams Hulk Hogan, but Hogan rolls out of the way of the elbow drop. He chops Earthquake and rakes the face again. Hulk Hogan lifts Earthquake for a slam but Earthquake lands on top getting a nearfall.

  Earthquake puts Hogan in the bearhug, waiting for him to fade. Hogan looks close, but starts ripping at the ref’s shirt. Earthquake lifts him, but Hogan fights out with right hands. Hulk Hogan knocks Earthquake back with shoulder blocks, but the running body press is caught. Earthquake slams Hogan down and covers him with one foot but Hogan gets his shoulder up. Earthquake hits the ropes for his Seated Senton, Hebner doesn’t count as Dino Bravo is on the apron, he tells Earthquake to hit it again and Earthquake obliges. 1, 2, Hogan kicks out! Earthquake lays in rights hands through the Hulk Up sequence, Hogan gets to his feet and blocks a right hand, he knocks Earthquake back with right hands. Hogan sends him off the ropes into the Big Boot but Earthquake is still on his feet. Hulk Hogan finally gets the scoop slam and Dino Bravo jumps to the apron, as does Bossman, Earl Hebner is distracted as Hogan hits the Leg Drop and covers Earthquake. It’s broken up by Jimmy Hart, Hogan backs Hart into a corner and lifts him overhead, Jimmy Hart is sent into Earthquake, sending them both out to the floor! Dino Bravo gets in the ring but is intercepted by Big Bossman. Earthquake holds Hogan for a megaphone shot from Hart, but Hulk Hogan gets out of the way as the referee is counting them out. Hulk Hogan slams Earthquake on to a table, but it doesn’t break, just falling with Earthquake awkwardly. Hogan gets back in the ring and counts with the referee.

WINNER: HULK HOGAN

 This was not good 30 years on. It was a basic Hogan vs. Monster match, but being a return match for Hogan the crowd ate it up. It was the Hogan vs. Monster formula with a shit finish, It clearly meant more at the time. [* ¾] 3.25 /10
