GOLDBERG ( C) VS. CURT HENNIG

Earlier in the night Curt Hennig was in the WCW.com area with Lee Marshall. He says he put the challenge out to Goldberg because he knows the secret to beating the unbeatable. He says it’s his experience and wearing Goldberg down. Bobby "The Brain” Heenan, Tony Schiovane and Mike Tenay are on commentary for this match, and Michael Buffer is here as the ring announcer. Hennig enters first to NWO's theme tune. There’s a long period of crowd shots before Goldberg makes his way out for his first WCW title defense. Buffer says Goldberg’s Streak is at 111 before this match. Goldberg’s forehead is busted open and Tenay explains he headbutts a locker before every match. Not the best pre-match ritual for his long-term health.

They circle at the bell, Goldberg gets a headlock, Curt Hennig backs up and sends Goldberg off the ropes, but Goldberg runs through him with a shoulder tackle. Curt Hennig knees Goldberg in the gut, hits his back then unloads chops. Goldberg shrugs them off and is shoved into the corner, he eats more chops and reverses an irish whip, Hennig stumbles out of the corner into a body scissors roll and he leaves the ring in frustration. Goldberg brings him back in, then knocks him into the corner. Hennig is sent across the ring but gets his boots up to a charging Goldberg, twice. Hennig makes it to the top rope, but Goldberg lifts him in the air and slams him down. Hennig takes Goldberg down and targets his knee with what Tenay called scissor stomps and cannonballing across Goldberg’s knee. Goldberg counters into a kneebar but Hennig is too close to the ropes. Curt Hennig grazes Goldberg with a clothesline and hits the Hennigplex for a nearfall. Goldberg knocks Hennig down with a clothesline, the momentum takes Goldberg down too. Goldberg hits the Spear and a Jackhammer to Curt Hennig for the win.

WINNER: GOLDBERG (STILL WCW Champion)

Curt Hennig had a gameplan going into the match, just no chance to put it into action. This was a short Goldberg match, and Hennig made it seem competitive which is all it needed to be. [*½] 2.5/10.
