PERRY SATURN VS. GOLDBERG

Mike Tenay, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and Tony Schiovane are on commentary for this match.

Perry Saturn makes his way to the ring first, accompanied by Kidman. Goldberg enters and of course the topic of conversation is his streak.

Perry Saturn cuts off the lock-up with a kick to the gut, then chops Goldberg. He sends Goldberg off the ropes but an abdominal stretch is countered and Goldberg throws Saturn overhead. Goldberg hits a belly-to-belly suplex then takes Saturn down with a leg scissors around the waist into a leg lock. Kidman helps Saturn reach the ropes, so Goldberg lifts him overhead and throws him onto his stablemate. Perry Saturn gets on the apron and uses shoulder blocks between the ropes, he rolls over Goldberg’s back and kicks him into the ropes before tripping him with a leg sweep. Saturn springboards off the middle rope with a leg drop then hits an elbow drop from the corner. He covers but Goldberg kicks out at one. Perry Saturn chops at Goldberg in the corner and hits a combination of roundhouse kicks. Goldberg is sent across the ring, Saturn quickly follows with a back elbow. He sets up for a suplex but Goldberg brings him down with a spinning takedown. He lifts Saturn overhead and drops him with a front slam.

Kidman is back on the apron, keeping Goldberg’s attention so Saturn can slide under the ropes, he drops Goldberg’s throat across the top rope then trips him from the floor, Saturn slingshots in with a body press and takes Goldberg over with a T-Bone suplex. Saturn hits Goldberg with a superkick, but Goldberg is still on his feet, so he gets dumped out of the ring. Perry Saturn hits a dropkick from the apron and crushes Goldberg’s arm between the ring steps and the ring post. Saturn gets back on the apron and hits a hurricanrana on Goldberg before sending his shoulder into the ring post. Perry Saturn slips on a springboard back elbow, but Goldberg just catches him. Saturn sends Goldberg back into the ring and hits a spinning heel kick from the top rope. He covers Goldberg but he immediately kicks out. Saturn takes Goldberg down in an armbar, Goldberg is able to power to his feet but Saturn suplexes him over and applies a cross armbreaker. Goldberg gets to his feet in the hold and stomps on Saturn’s shoulder to break it.

Perry Saturn brings Goldberg down from the mat and transitions into a front facelock, but Goldberg slams him into the corner to break the hold. He sends his shoulder into Saturn’s ribs and sends him across the ring but runs into his boot. Saturn runs into a sidewalk slam but Goldberg can’t capitalize, Saturn sends him across the ring and Goldberg runs into a dropkick, but it was mis-timed. Perry Saturn tries to send Goldberg off the ropes but Goldberg reverses it and kicks Saturn’s head into the third row. Goldberg hits a short-arm clothesline, one of the worst I’ve seen, before hitting Saturn with the Spear. He sets up the Jackhammer but Kidman gets on the apron, drawing Nick Patrick’s allowing Saturn to hit a low blow on Goldberg. Saturn sits Goldberg on the corner but the superplex is blocked, Goldberg lifts Saturn whilst stood on the middle rope and press scoop slams him to the floor!

The Flock run out, Goldberg hits a dropkick from the middle rope, hitting Reese on the apron but the camera is behind Reese because WCW fans don’t get nice things. Goldberg hits Kidman with a Spear and starts slamming his head into the mat. Perry Saturn breaks it up, allowing Kidman to escape to the floor as Goldberg is put in the Rings of Saturn, but Goldberg is able to break the hold and lift Saturn onto his shoulders and into a Jackhammer for the win!

 WINNER: GOLDBERG

This was going well until the end, they recovered well (especially with Goldberg’s inexperience) from the back elbow on the floor, but that was just the first botch they had, the overbooked finish had to be expected but they didn’t need it in the first match. I’d say it’s one of Saturn’s best matches in his career, he looked like a monster in the loss. ** 5.5/10.
