Earlier in the show, Rhino cut an intense promo saying Detroit is tougher than New York (this event is in the Hammerstein Ballroom) and Dudleyville and that Spike will regret interfering in Rhino's matches these last few months. Spike Dudley did an impression of Rhino for his promo before going over his Giant Killer streak and says he's taking Rhino's belt. Rhino makes his way to the ring as Styles is on commentary with Cyrus for this match. Spike makes his way down and kicks this one off
RHINO © VS. SPIKE DUDLEY (ECW Television Championship)
ECW Massacre on 34th Street (3rd December 2000)
Spike Dudley jumps into Rhino's arms firing off right hands, Rhino puts him down and Spike kicks him in the gut, he goes for the Acid Drop but Rhino throws him across the ring. Spike gores Rhino but that pisses him off. Rhino runs into a drop toehold and Spike starts working on the leg. Rhino hits Spike with right hands but Spike just eats them, Spike Dudley ducks a right hand and kicks Rhino's leg from beneath him. Spike jumps on Rhino with more right hands and Rhino throws him off by the hair. I feel like I'm reviewing a Wetherspoons scrap here, not an ECW TV title match. Rhino hits at Spike but Spike trips him with a single-leg. Rhino kicks Spike away and beats him through the ropes, following to the floor to send Spike into the guard rail. Spike's head is sent into the guard rail, then Rhino irish whips Spike to the other side. Rhino runs into a boot from Spike, who throws a chair into the ring.
Rhino stops Spike from following the chair, bringing him in an electric chair before putting him through the timekeeper's table at ringside. Spike is rolled back into the ring, Rhino hits him with a chair and Spike doesn't hide the blading. Rhino is back in the ring with the chair and hits Spike over the head as we see the blood. Rhino sends Spike's head into the turnbuckle and stomps him in the corner. Rhino starts trying to get to Spike's injured knee, then clubs him across the back. The fans chant boring, which is always a good sign, as Spike's head is sent into a setup chair. Rhino takes some time telling the New York fans that Detroit Pizza's better and Spike is able to get to his feet. He launches a chair at Rhino's face, Rhino gets out of the ring to try and shake off the cobwebs but Spike comes off the top rope with the chair, hitting Rhino on the top of the head. Spike sends Rhino into the crowd and bites at his forehead. I lose all sight of them as they brawl into the crowd, then see Spike dive from the balcony onto Rhino!
There was no room for error there, they were next to the railing. Unbelievably they can stand back up and Spike brings Rhino back to the first row. Spike Dudley hits him with a beer and takes ages setting up a chair shot, jumping off a chair from ringside onto Rhino leaned over the guard rail. Yeah, it's as Coveluted as it sounds. He hits Rhino again with the chair and brings it back into the ring. Spike covers but Rhino kicks out at 2. Spike Dudley sends Rhino from corner to corner but runs into a drop toe hold, Rhino lifts Spike up for the military press, Spike lands on his feet behind Rhino, another Acid drop but Rhino sends Spike over the top rope through the timekeeper's table! Rhino rolls Spike back into the ring and covers 1, 2, no! Rhino sends Spike Dudley off the ropes, he ducks a clothesline but Rhino Gores him in half, Spike is able to roll out of the ring. The boring chants start up again and Spike goes ape shit on Rhino with a chair from ringside. He ties Rhino's ankle to the bottom rope. He gets in the ring and goes to town on Rhino's knee, but it breaks free from the rope. Rhino has some of the tape and he rolls Spike into a chokehold on the mat. The referee lifts the arm and Spike is out.
WINNER: RHINO (STILL ECW Television Champion)
I kind of agree with the crowd, this match went on for too long. Although they did seem to use it as a chant against Rhino, they ate up everything Spike did. Shave a few minutes off this, maybe miss the dive spot as it didn't end up meaning much and you have a better match.– As a match, it's * ¾ but personally, I'd rate it 2.5/10
