PAUL JONES VS. IVAN KOLOFF

Before this match Magnum TA interviews Junkyard Dog on his match at Starrcade, teaming with Ivan Koloff against the Russian Assassins. We then see a slow-motion replay of the infamous spike in Dusty Rhodes' eye. He takes on Road Warrior Animal tonight. Then a commercial for Starrcade 1988, including Mike Rotunda vs. Rick Steiner for the Television Championship. Jim Ross and Bob Caudle are on commentary for this match. It is billed as a “handicap” match because Koloff has one hand tied behind his back. Both men are in the ring as we come back from commercial, ready for referee Teddy Long to tie Koloff's hand behind his back.

PAUL JONES VS. IVAN KOLOFF

Clash of the Champions 4 (7th December 1988)

Paul Jones stalls to start, I don't blame him either, that rope is way too short. He kicks Koloff back into the corner but is caught in a choke with one hand. Paul Jones scrambles out of the ring for a restart, but is tripped when he gets back in. Paul Jones avoids a right hand and gets a cheap jab in on Koloff. They exchange right hands in the corner, Koloff gets the best end of it and Jones begs off into the opposite corner. Ivan Koloff knocks Jones down with a headbutt, Paul Jones shoots for the leg but gets nothing. Koloff headbutts Jones and kicks him on the mat, Paul Jones' head meets the top turnbuckles then Koloff sends him across the ring with one arm. Paul Jones begs off again but gets choked for his efforts. He tries to punch his way out of it but ends up on the mat. Teddy Long has to remove Koloff's hand. Paul Jones catches his breath enough to mount a comeback, blocking a kick and kicking Koloff in the hamstring. Jones gets some rights and hits a jumping elbow drop. Jones hits a knee drop and starts choking Koloff with the rope at the 5 minute mark. There's a 30-minute time limit on the match

Ivan Koloff rolls out of the ring when he is out of the choke and his left shoulder is sent into the ring post. Paul Jones sends Ivan Koloff into the ringpost again and bounces his head off the apron before getting into the ring, Ivan Koloff beats the count, but even getting in the ring takes longer with one arm. Paul Jones is there with an elbow drop before stomping on Koloff's hand. Jones kicks away Koloff's free arm as he tries to get to his feet, taunting him. Ivan Koloff is sent across the ring but meets Jones with right hands. Paul Jones quickly gets out of the ring, taking something out of his tights. He hits Koloff in the throat with it before getting back in the ring. More stomps and rights by Jones. Ivan Koloff rakes at the eyes to cut Jones off, sending him back to the floor. Ivan Koloff hits Jones with a right hand, knocking the object into the ring. Ivan Koloff uses the object to hit Jones in the head and win the match.

WINNER: IVAN KOLOFF

This was a decent enough match. Ivan Koloff looked strong being able to control as much of the match as he could with one arm. Paul Jones took every short cut he could and tried to take advantage of Koloff's difficulties but his own tricks became his undoing as Ivan Koloff was able to use it as an equaliser. It maybe went too long, but that came from the stalling at the beginning.– As a match it's * but personally I'd rate it 2.5/10
