Good Ol' JR and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on commentary for this match. Bossman enters first and JR asks if Bossman is in the tournament to win or just put Austin on the shelf, to which King says it could be both. Austin enters and is met on the entranceway by Bossman with right hands. Austin fights his way to ringside and sends Bossman into the steps before taking it in the ring to start the match

Steve Austin backs Big Bossman against the ropes and sends him off, Bossman ducks a clothesline as we go to Mr. McMahon backstage and miss the Lou Thesz press. Austin gets a quick nearfall and sends Bossman's head into the turnbuckle, but Bossman hits him with a low blow to cut him off. Bossman cannonballs across Austin's back and chokes him in the corner with his boot. Big Bossman brings Austin to his feet and adds a comical right hand, a knee drop and he covers for 2, before going to the chinlock. JR reminds us of the 10-minute time limit for the first round matches in the tournament. Austin makes it to his feet and breaks free with rights, he hits the ropes and knocks Bossman down with a clothesline. Big Bossman is sent off the ropes again but Austin ducks early, Bossman kicks him and knocks him into the ropes, setting him up for the cannonball. Bossman picks up momentum to slide out of the ring and hits Austin with a right hand, then covers for 2.
Big Bossman goes back to the chinlock as we see McMahon backstage looking happy with the match so far. The fans chant for Austin and he gets to his feet, backing Bossman into the corner and hitting shoulder barges in the corner. Steve Austin hits him with rights and stomps a mudhole in Big Bossman complete with two-finger salute. He tries to send Bossman across the ring, but Bossman slides out. He grabs his nightstick and hits Austin in the ribs, causing the disqualification.
WINNER: STEVE AUSTIN (Disqualification)
This match existed. It made sense to have Austin face one of the members of the Corporation in the first round but it was a short, slow match. It helped move the Stone Cold & Vince McMahon story along and put Austin in jeopardy for the later rounds thanks to the post-match antics, it's a means to an end. – As a match it's * but personally, I'd rate it 1/10
Big Bossman continues the attack with the nightstick after the match, hitting and choking Austin with it before he jams the end into Austin's chest. Jim Ross sends us to the back with Michael Cole and Mr. McMahon, who says what happened with Austin in the tournament isn't advancement and that Austin's in for it, then we see the updated tournament brackets.
