MASAHIRO CHONO (C) VS. GREAT MUTA

Jim Ross and Jesse Ventura are on commentary for this match. The challenger enters first, Masahiro Chono walks focused to the ring as Jim Ross mentions Rick Rude's injury earlier tonight.

Muta circles when the bell rings, Masahiro Chono starts with right hands and snapmares Muta over, The Great Muta is sent into the ropes but he hits Chono with a forearm and we get our first standoff. Muta grabs a headlock as Ross explains the Champions advantage, Muta takes Chono down but ends up in a headscissors, he counters into a toehold but Chono hits him with an enziguri, Muta takes a break on the floor. Masahiro Chono grabs a headlock but Muta counters into a top wristlock, Chono kicks Muta's leg and goes back to the headlock, he's sent off the ropes but knocks Muta down with a shoulder tackle. Great Muta goes back to the floor for another break, Muta wants a test of strength when he gets back in, Masahiro Chono gets the advantage but Muta counters. Masahiro Chono hits a Northern Lights suplex and they're still locked together, Muta transitions into a full nelson then an abdominal stretch. Masahiro Chono is able to counter into one of his own as Jim Ross mentions for the third time already that it's the first time two Japanese wrestlers have competed for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in America.


Great Muta counters into an armbar on the mat, Masahiro Chono tries to keep his shoulder off the mat and is able to roll to his feet, he scrapes his boot across Muta's face and puts an armbar on. Great Muta gets to his feet and kicks at Chono's hamstring. Great Muta brings Chono over with a snapmare and puts him in a figure four necklock. Masahiro Chono is able to roll through and free himself, using Muta's figure four and pulling on the foot to apply pressure but Muta gets to the ropes quickly. Chono kicks Muta in the gut and sends him through the ropes. Great Muta uses the count before getting in the ring. Masahiro Chono sends Muta back out through the ropes and Muta darts back in the ring as Chono follows. Great Muta allows Chono back in the ring and they lock up, Masahiro Chono gets an arm wringer, he puts Muta in a standing armbar, dropping him to one knee and transitioning to a hammerlock. He brings Muta down to the mat with a front facelock, still keeping him in a hammerlock and stomps on the arm. Masahiro Chono goes back to the standing armbar The Great Muta with an amazing flip counter attempt, but Chono keeps hold of the left arm.


Jim Ross mentions Muta's frustrations as Chono slams Muta and goes to the top rope. Great Muta cuts him off and hits a superplex from the top rope. The referee starts counting both men down, Great Muta is on his feet first, he sends Chono off the ropes into a backdrop, he trips Chono with a single-leg and applies a boston crab. He grapevines the lower leg and drops into an Indian deathlock, Muta applies pressure to the neck too, bridging back for as long as he can hold it. Masahiro Chono is able to grab the rope, causing a break. He kicks Muta in the gut and clubs at him before hitting a suplex, Great Muta is sent off the ropes but he rolls under a clothesline and hits a spinning kick to Chono, Masahiro Chono decides to bail to the floor, using the referee's count before getting back in the ring. Great Muta kicks him in the gut and sends Chono into the turnbuckles. Great Muta hits a cartwheel back elbow which the fans go insane for. Masahiro Chono tries to fight from the ground but Muta kicks him in the leg and hits a backbreaker.


Masahiro Chono rolls out of the way of the moonsault, Muta lands on his feet but he's favouring his knee, so Chono targets the hamstring with kicks. Masahiro Chono boots Great Muta in the face, backing him into the ropes, but Muta comes back with a forearm shot and gets a nearfall from an inside cradle. They both get to their feet and try a dropkick at the same time, Chono hits a back suplex on Muta, he tries for another one but Muta counters into a crossbody for a nearfall. Great Muta eats shit on a dropkick and Masahiro Chono locks in the STF, Great Muta fights it for a while but taps out.

WINNER: MASAHIRO CHONO (STILL NWA World Heavyweight Champion)

This was a good match between these two, they worked a different style, the suplexes looked more brutal and the martial arts kick (as every kick was at this time) and Muta's arm drag need to be seen. Except for those few moments though, it was just a serviceable match.– As a match it's ** but personally, I'd rate it 4.25/10
