ADRIAN ADONIS VS. CORPORAL KIRCHNER

We get the 1980's defining space WWF intro before the voice-over rolls through the participants in tonight's tournament and the “main event” WWF Championship match between Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper. We start with Vince McMahon who is backstage with the tournament brackets (they looked so much better before they were done electronically) he's with Lord Alfred Hayes and Susan Waitkis (I don't know either, it took me a bit of research to even find her name) they go over tonight's tournament brackets that were drawn earlier. We see here they found Michelle McCool's gimmick also as Susan has a teacher's pointing stick to assist with the narration. We see Ricky Steamboat draw his opponent, Liz draws for Savage and he doesn't like her choice. Mr. Fuji picks for Don Muraco and I wish they did that for the Royal Rumble when they drew numbers. No reason is given for why these three men got to pick or who the other 8 drawing participants were. “Mean” Gene Okerlund is backstage with Jack Tunney who says only the winners advance in the tournament. If there is a draw both people are eliminated. Nothing else, OK then...

Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Gorilla Monsoon are on commentary for the evening. Adrian Adonis is in the ring, he's doing the tough-New Yorker gimmick but it looks like a transition to a more effeminate gimmick he would take on, he seriously looks like one of the Village People. Jimmy Hart is with him. Corporal Kirchner gets an entrance as Gorilla mentions what a “treat” it is to get this match.

ADRIAN ADONIS VS. CORPORAL KIRCHNER (The Wrestling Challenge Round 1)

WWF The Wrestling Challenge (7th November 1985)

They lock up as the bell rings and Adrian Adonis backs Kirchner into the corner, breaking clean, They lock up for a second time and Kirchner takes Adonis over for an arm drag. Adonis takes a second to get to his feet, because we all know on one knee is a defensive stance in professional wrestling and can't be broken. Corporal Kirchner takes him over with another arm drag and Adonis charges in his defensive pose again. Gorilla Monsoon mentions a 10-minute time limit in the first round matches, which didn't count as a “rule” for Jack Tunney earlier. Corporal Kirchner puts a headlock on Adonis and brings him down to the ground, working it for a solid 5% of his time. Adrian Adonis is able to use Jimmy Hart's incessant shouting as motivation and get to his feet, breaking the hold with a back suplex and hitting elbows to the top of Kirchner's head. Adonis snapmares Kirchner over and hits a knee drop. Instead of covering he snapmares Kirchner over again and applies a chinlock. Corporal Kirchner gets to his feet and breaks the hold with elbows in the corner. He hits Adonis with right hands and tries for a suplex but Adrian Adonis counters into a DDT for the win.

WINNER: ADRIAN ADONIS

It was a pretty standard first round match. They worked it simple to preserve energy and they didn't do anything to majorly fuck the match up.– As a match it's * but personally I'd rate it 1/10

Mean Gene Okurlund is in the back with Adonis and Hart. Jimmy puts over his guy as being unstoppable for beating Kirchner. Adonis makes up for it with the line “most guys don't know a wristlock from a padlock” but it's a pretty rushed promo.
