KEN SHAMROCK VS. JEFF JARRETT

I don't know how I didn't think of this before now. This episode of Heat featured 4 qualifiers for the 1999 King of the Ring tournament. Debra is shown walking with Jeff Jarrett backstage and I completely forgot about her being a Woman's champion. The video before the match building up the tournament is awesome. The brackets are shown, but the quality of the video I'm using is terrible so I can't show it. Jarrett and Debra enter first to an ovation, this, unfortunately, was a week after Owen Hart's passing, who had recently been teaming with Jarrett. Kevin Kelly and Michael Cole are on commentary. Ken Shamrock enters next, who won last year's tournament. Kevin Kelly says Shamrock needs to keep his temper, a disqualification or count out means Jarrett qualifies.

JEFF JARRETT VS. KEN SHAMROCK
WWF Sunday Night Heat (30th May 1999)

They lock up and Ken Shamrock gets a waistlock, taking Jarrett down. The fans chant for puppies as Jarrett fights to his feet into a waistlock of his own. Shamrock counters with an arm wrench but Jeff Jarrett cuts him off with a right hand. Jarrett backs Shamrock into the corner with right hands and sends him across the ring. Ken Shamrock comes out of the corner with a clothesline but it's ducked by Jarrett, who connects with a dropkick. Jarrett hits another right and sends Shamrock into the ropes. He ducks early and Shamrock rolls through with a sunset flip into a kneebar. Jarrett tries to crawl to the ropes as Debra shouts encouragement, so Shamrock releases and drags Jarrett into the middle of the ring. Shamrock targets the leg with elbow drops and a kick. Shamrock brings Jarrett to his feet and sends him off the ropes. Jeff Jarrett ducks a clothesline but is caught with a kick. Shamrock quickly covers for 2.

Kevin Kelly mentions Shamrock's stable The Union for one of the only times ever, as his stablemate Big Show is also in the tournament. Ken Shamrock's beating on Jarrett the whole time. Shamrock hits a suplex as they bring their attention back to this match. Jarrett's head meets the turnbuckle but he cuts off an irish whip. A knee to the gut sets Jarrett up for a Russian leg sweep and he covers but only gets 1. Jarrett sends Shamrock's head into the turnbuckle but is sent across the ring, running into a back elbow. Ken Shamrock hits a jumping calf kick but the hurricanrana is countered into a powerbomb by Jarrett. Jeff Jarrett sets up for the Figure Four but Shamrock rolls through into the ankle lock, Jarrett immediately taps.

WINNER: KEN SHAMROCK

The promo for the King of the Ring tournament really made this. It was a basic match for the C show to start the final King of the Ring of the decade. It did it's job and Jarrett looked as competitive as you can in 3 minutes. – [*½ ] match but personally 1/10
