CRUSH VS. HUNTER HEARST HELMSLEY

This was Hunter Hearst Helmsley's second chance to qualify for the King of the Ring tournament as he was disqualified against Ahmed Johnson. During Crush's entrance, we're shown KenShamrock breaking Vader's nose last month at a Cold Day in Hell. Crush was a member of the Nation of Domination at this time and has Savio Vega and some lawyer looking dude with him his name's Clarence but that distracted me thinking of 8 mile.. Chyna accompanies Helmsley to the ring and we cut to Gerald Brisco, who says it was stated to Helmsley he could only advance through pinfall and submission and this match is to stop his lawyers giving him the company..... Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on commentary

HUNTER HEARST HELMSLEY VS. CRUSH (King of the Ring Round 1)
WWF Raw (19th May 1997)

The bell rings and they lock up, Crush backs Helmsley into the corner and we get a clean break, Helmsley hits Crush but it is a mere annoyance, so he pokes him in the eye then attacks him in the corner with rights and kicks. Crush reverses an irish whip but ducks early so Triple H hits a neckbreaker and bows to the Nation member on the outside. Helmsley runs into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker, an ax handle and strikes to the back follow before another backbreaker. Crush sends Helmsley off the ropes into a bearhug then spinebusters him down. Helmsley is put in position and Crush gets on the middle rope, salutes but that gives Helmsley time to move out of the way, although he ended up closer to Crush's fist than he would have been. Helmsley goes toe to toe with Crush which goes as well as you'd expect for a poshboy fighting a biker. Triple H is sent into the turnbuckles, going upside down and walks into a military press gutbuster. Crush covers for a nearfall.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley counters a suplex, landing on his feet and hits a facebuster into an awkward looking neckbreaker. Helmsley sets up the Pedigree but Savio Vega gets on the apron. Helmsley uses the distraction to bring Crush over to Chyna, who is also now on the apron. Crush counters as the referee turns his attention from Vega to Chyna, Crush has Helmsley's arms behind his back, taking him over to Vega, but Helmsley ducks the kick and covers Crush for the win.

WINNER: HUNTER HEARST HELMSLEY

Helmsley and Chyna get out of there whilst Crush and Savio Vega get into a shoving match in the ring until Farooq cools it off.

That was one way to go. The match was short enough and there were only a couple of awkward moments but it felt like they went from the beginning straight to the finish with nothing to flesh it out in between.– [**] match but personally 3/10
