Michael Cole, Beth Phoenix and Renee Young are on
commentary for this match. Michael Cole talks about the night these
two women and Sasha Banks debuted on Raw, since at this point NXT
didn't mean as much to WWE history. They have had 11 matches against
each other and the score is tied at 5-5 with a draw between them
also.
Becky
Lynch © VS. Charlotte Flair
Smackdown
Women's Championship (Last Woman Standing)
WWE
Evolution (28th October 2018)
The bell rings
and Michael Cole immediately tells us this is the first match of its
kind in WWE. They soak in the crowd and stare each other down then
Becky Lynch charges
but Charlotte ducks
the clothesline, Becky ducks a big boot and her spin kick is caught,
Becky shoves Charlotte and tells her it's Becky's time. Charlotte
shoves her on her ass and the referee counts. Yep, seriously. The
referee started the count from a SHOVE. Becky wills herself to her
feet at 3 (slight sarcasm) and starts shouting at the ref, presumably
for being a moron. Charlotte Flair struts and lifts a charging Becky
for a slam, but Lynch escapes through the back and knocks her down
with a clothesline. The referee starts counting and Charlotte kips up
at 2. Charlotte shoves Becky into the ropes but is knocked down with
a flying forearm. Becky Lynch hits a running leg drop to Charlotte
on the mat and an elbow drop before the worst impression of the Flair
strut I've ever seen, and I tried it drunk once. Becky Lynch hits
another running leg drop this time paying homage to Rob Van Dam and spinning 180 degrees in the air.
Charlotte makes it to her feet at 4 as Cole calls it “the first
count of the match”
Becky Lynch
knocks Charlotte back with forearms but gets caught in a backslide,
Flair drops into a neckbreaker in a nice move. Becky sends Charlotte
into the corner but she maneuvers herself over the ropes to the
apron. Becky runs into a shoulder block through the ropes but cuts
off Charlotte making her way to the top turnbuckle and throws her
back into the ring. Charlotte gets up at 3 as Becky takes a rest in
the corner. Bexploder suplex keeps Charlotte down for 3 but she gets
to her feet in the corner. She tries to boot Becky but gets caught,
Lynch throws her leg down and hits her with a forearm. Charlotte
avoids a cross body attempt by Lynch and hits the big boot, Becky
Lynch is back to her feet as the referee goes to count 5, the
champion sends Charlotte into the middle turnbuckle and sends her out
to the floor. Charlotte gets to her feet at 5 but Becky has a kendo
stick and she goes to town on Charlotte with it, an easy 5 or six
shots to the arms and back before Charlotte is able to grab the
stick. Becky Lynch kicks her in the gut and the kendo stick goes
flying.
Becky sends
Charlotte's face into the apron and looks for another weapon. The
fans chant for tables but Becky Lynch grabs a chair, Charlotte has
made her way to the other side of the ring and also has a chair, they
each throw them in the ring, then start filling the ring with chairs.
The fans chant E C Dub but it's not exactly the rainfall of chairs
from that incident. Charlotte brings a table from under the ring but
Becky runs around to her and hits a forearm shot from the steel
steps. Charlotte hits an Xploder suplex on the floor and Becky gets
to her feet at 5. Charlotte is trying to set the table up but Becky
grabs a chair from in the ring and hits her over the back, which
Charlotte sells like a gun shot. Another shot to the gut follows and
then one across the spine as Charlotte is on her knees. The fans
chant “you deserve it” and personally I think they deserved the
main event for this match, but I can see why from a business
standpoint Ronda Rousey got that honor. Nikki Bella not so much, but
that's going off topic.
Becky Lynch
brings it back into the ring and throws Charlotte onto the chairs.
Becky starts piling the chairs as the referee counts Charlotte down,
who gets to her feet at 6. Charlotte elbows her way out of the
Bexploder suplex and back suplexes Becky onto the chairs. Charlotte
rolls out of the ring to get back to her feet at 7, with Becky using
the ropes to make it up a count later. Charlotte slides a table into
the ring but is kicked off the apron by Lynch, who sets up the table
as the referee counts Charlotte on the floor. Charlotte is up at 4
thanks to the announce table and makes her way back into the ring but
Lynch hits a urinage on the chairs. Becky Lynch is up at 5 and cuts
off the referee's count at 8 as Charlotte is struggling to her feet.
Becky Lynch lays Charlotte across the table, but is knocked off the
top rope. Charlotte stomps on Becky and puts her on the table,
hitting a moonsault but the table decides to no-sell and they fall
off to the mat.
Charlotte Flair
is up at 5, putting the table back as it should be and sends Becky's
head into it at 8 to break the count.Becky Lynch is places back on
the table and this time Charlotte puts her through it with a
somersault senton. They both get to their feet at 9 to stop the
referee's count then collapse back to the mat. Charlotte rolls out to
the floor again and brings a ladder into the ring as Becky takes a
nap in the corner. Becky knocks Charlotte down and the ladder stays
on it's feet for an impressively long time before Becky pushes it
over, not wanting the match to be upstaged by that moment. Becky
Lynch slams Charlotte onto the ladder. Charlotte starts making it to
her feet but Becky interupts the count again, attempting another
slam. Charlotte lands on her feet and chop blocks Lynch then kicks at
her leg. She drags Becky over to the ladder, taking an awkwardly long
time to set her legs up through the ladder before kicking at them as
Beth mentions that Becky's MCL and ACL ligaments are in danger.
Michael Cole
calls it great strategy because “if you can't stand, then you can't
get to your feet” before silently realising how that sounds.
Charlotte gets the ladder assisted Figure Four and bridges into the
Figure Eight, Becky taps to no avail and drags herself towards the
chairs. Grabbing one and hitting Charlotte in the leg with it. Becky
Lynch rolls out of the ring to her feet at 7 and the referee stops
counting Charlotte before she's properly to her feet. Charlotte
leaves the ring and gets sent into the steel steps, Becky uses the
ring for support as Charlotte starts making it to her feet at 4, but
before she can get anything going Becky Lynch sends her into the ring
post. The referee gets to 7 when Becky Lynch grabs her belt and
starts walking out through the crowd. Charlotte beats the count and
gives chase, chopping Becky as she catches up. Becky starts answering
with forearms and they exchange shots, but Charlotte's chops win out
as they make it back to ringside and Becky Lynch is sent over the
barricade.
Charlotte sets up
the German announce table, launching one of the monitors at an
innocent cameraman. She brings a ladder from under the ring and sends
Becky's head into the English announce table, but Becky gets a shot
in with her title belt, which the referee must have brought with him.
Becky Lynch sets Charlotte up on the announce table and hits a leg
drop from the ladder. Becky Lynch is up at 7, Charlotte barely makes
it to her feet and drops to her knees and Becky charges at her with a
boot. She attacks Charlotte with fists and buries her under a mixture
of announcers chairs, steel chairs and a section of the table from
earlier before telling the referee to count, but Charlotte makes it
her feet at the last second. Charlotte Flair goes after Becky with
numerous kendo stick shots and spears her on the floor. Charlotte
drags Becky around ringside and sets up the table on the floor.
Charlotte climbs up for a moonsault but Becky powerbombs her from the
second rope through the table, finally keeping her down for the 10.
WINNER: BECKY LYNCH (STILL SMACKDOWN WOMEN'S
CHAMPION)
This was an amazing match from these two and as I
said earlier deserved to go on last tonight. There was the awkward
ladder set up and the table not breaking on the moonsault but they
gave it all for this match and elevated the spots as it went along.
I'm glad the plunder burial wasn't the finish, as that would have
been a complete anti-climax after all they'd done preceeding it, but
it led to one last scrap before the end. Possibly my favourite
women's match of all time.– [*** ¾] match but personally 6/10
