BRET HART VS. JERRY LAWLER (KotR 1995)

Vince McMahon and Dok Hendrix (former Freebird, Michael Hayes) are on commentary for this match. Bret Hart has a backstage interview with a shaky camera saying he can't wait to put his long history with Lawler to bed. He's ready for this match, he'll beat Lawler tonight even if it means Lawler's lips having to touch Hitman's feet. It's the price he has to pay for redemption for himself, his family and his fans. Jerry Lawler makes his way to the ring and is interrupted by an interviewer (Stephanie Wyiand I think her name is) and she asks his chances tonight. Apparently, she should be asking Bret's chances against WWF's one true King. Lawler hasn't washed his feet for weeks in “preparation” for this match but blames Stephanie for the smell. She lets him get to the ring without saying much more because he stinks. McMahon speculates that Lawler could be hoping Bret gets himself disqualified as Lawler tells the crowd from the ring that he's going to make them kiss his feet too. The Hitman comes out to a roar from the crowd as McMahon says if he loses to Lawler he may never want to wrestle again. A young fan gets Bret's shades before he enters the ring.

JERRY LAWLER VS. BRET HART (Kiss My Foot match)
WWF King of the Ring (25th June 1995)

Lawler talks trash as he avoids Bret early, Hart gets him in the corner with punches to the gut. Lawler comes out of the corner walking into a headbutt and dropping to the mat. Lawler bails from the ring but Hart follows him, Bret sends Lawler's head into the guardrail and brings it back into the ring. Lawler's face is ground on the top rope before Hart goes back to rights in the corner. Another headbutt drops Lawler again so he goes back to the floor. Bret follows again with a headbutt to the kidneys and a right hand, Lawler sends him into the steps. Lawler gets back in the ring, stupidly going back out to the apron, stopping referee Earl Hebner counting Bret out. King is forced to go back on the attack outside, sending Bret's skull into the guardrail. Lawler takes it back into the ring and gloats, pausing only to send Hart's head into the top turnbuckle. Lawler drags Bret out of the corner to hit three piledrivers that felt a year apart. Lawler waits even longer before covering Bret, who kicks out at 2.

Lawler sends Bret's head into the turnbuckle again but gets preoccupied by the fans, the referee restrains him as Hitman recovers in the corner. Bret hits Lawler with right hands out of the corner so Lawler rakes his eyes and sends Bret through the ropes. Bret Hart gets back in the ring as Lawler takes his boot off, showing his manky foot. He hits Bret with the boot out of the referee's sight and covers but still only gets 2. Bret crawls to the corner, where Lawler has his boot back off and chokes Bret with his foot. He goes back after the referee breaks the illegal hold but Bret holds him off. Bret trips Lawler, hitting a headbutt to the midsection. Lawler fights back from his knees with a right to the gut but Hart is able to drop him with one to the cranium. Lawler crawls to the corner and grabs his boot, but has to take three elbow shots to the nose before he can swing it at The Hitman. Lawler hits a fist drop from the middle rope for another nearfall. Lawler exits the ring again, attempting to post Bret, but Bret sends Lawler into the post instead!

Bret Hart goes on the attack on the floor, Hakushi is here! Hakushi's manager distracts the referee as Bret stalks Hakushi, leaving Lawler to grab Bret from behind. Bret ducks the telegraphed shot by Hakushi which knocks Lawler into the ring. Bret gets back in the ring and sends Lawler off the ropes into a shot to the ribs. Bret hits a Russian legsweep and brings Lawler back to his feet for a backbreaker. Bret hits an elbow drop off the top rope and locks in a sharpshooter, Jerry Lawler tries to hold on but has to tap out.

WINNER: BRET HART

Well, this happened. Bret beat Lawler, fought off reinforcements and overcame illegal tactics and three piledrivers. He didn't make it look challenging, the only thing he did make look challenging was dragging Lawler to a decent match. At least he got his big win to a big reaction, just a shame it was this match. – WORKRATE: 1/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 0/5 OVERALL 1/10

In a nice touch Bret holds on to the sharpshooter after Lawler gives up, Hebner starts to count for Bret to let go of the hold, Bret waits until the last second before the decision was reversed. Bret removes his boot and sock in the corner as Lawler tries to beg off. Bret drops Lawler to his knees but Hakushi returns. Lawler holds Bret in place again, Hakushi hits a springboard shoulder block hitting Lawler again! Bret sends Hakushi and his manager packing before forcing his foot into Jerry Lawler's mouth, as per the pre-match stipulation. As a bonus, Bret shoves Lawler's own foot in his mouth. I thought you lost that ability as a toddler.

Should you feel the impulsion to see this match, it is available on the WWE Network and “The Best of the King of the Ring” DVD & Blu Ray, as well as “It's Good to be King... Sometimes” Jerry Lawler's career retrospective DVD & Blu Ray release
