The opening video package shows positive reviews for NXT from various sources before moving on to the NXT Women's Championship and NXT Championship matches tonight.
On commentary tonight are Rich Brennan, Corey Graves and Jason Albert. They introduce us to the show as Hideo Itami enters for his match. Itami was attacked by his opponent tonight, Tyler Breeze, in the locker room after losing a semi-finals tournament match to Finn Balor last week. Tyler Breeze enters and his selfie stick confuses Jason Albert.
MATCH 1: TYLER BREEZE VS. HIDEO ITAMI
The bell rings and Breeze plays keep-away around the ring as Itami tries to kick him. Breeze uses the referee as a shield and gets a cheap shot in on Itami. A right hand sends Itami into the ropes, and Breeze trash talks him before hitting a second. Itami's emotions easily got the better of him in that opening minute. Breeze comes back from across the ring with a jumping forearm and tells Itami he's not smarter than Breeze. Itami has something to sat avout that as he follows Breeze to the other side, sandwiching him with a jumping cothesline. Itami sends Tyler Breeze across the ring, but Breeze ducks big boot attempts, a knee to the gut catches him off guard and sends him over. Itami kicks Breeze in the chest with a Penalty kick, causing Breeze to roll out of the ring to find his lung. The fans clearly supporting Hideo Itami here as Jason Albert says it takes time to adjust. He's doing OK here.
Itami follows Breeze out the ring and back in again, Itami ducks a clothesline, coming back with a running dropkick. Hideo Itami kicks Breeze in the chest, then hits a spinning back kick to slump Breeze in the corner, Itami charges for a boot in the corner but Breeze slides out to the apron. Breeze misses a shoulder block through the ropes and Itami kicks at his chest again. Albert says Breeze has been escaping all match. Can you blame him hearingg those kicks? Itami tries to get Breeze back to his feet and in the ring but Breeze trips Itami, bouncing his knee off the apron. Breeze kicks at the left leg as he gets back in the ring, causing the referee to ask Itami if he wants to continue. Breeze is back on the attack as the referee OK's it, driving his elbow into Itami's knee. Itami makes it back to his feet, but can't get any weight on his left leg, so Breeze sends him into the corner. Breeze exits the ring and wraps Itami's knee around the ring post, before using the whole 5-count on a ring post-assisted figure 4. Jason Albert tells Itami to get some distance, and he's trying, but the one-legged thing is making it difficult!
Breeze steps on Itami's ankle as he gets back in the ring. He drags Itami to the centre, locking in a Texas cloverleaf. Itami struggles to the bottom rope and Breeze holds on until 4 again, causing the referee to have words. Breeze boots at Itami out of frustration and brings him to his feet. Itami ducks under, GO TO SLEEP POSITION! No, Breeze slides out behind Itami, roll up, 1, 2, no! Itami hits a big boot! Discus into a Supermodel Kick! 1, 2, 2.5, no! Tyler Breeze is wondering what he has to do to put Itami away as we see a replay of the Supermodel kick. Graves and Albert tell Breeze to stay on Hideo, both men get to their knees and Breeze hits some stiff right hands, Breeze gets to his feet, kicking Hideo Itami in the chest. Tyler Breeze keeps hitting Itami, but it brings Itami back up to his feet! Hideo Itami hits a combination of hand strikes before a spinning kick to the midsection sends Breeze to the mat. Itami's left leg is still troubling him, so he uses the rope for balance as he kicks at Breeze's chest. Breeze drops down to his knees as Itami gets the feeling back in his leg. Breeze takes another combination of roundhouse kicks to the chest. Breeze is slumped in the corner, where Itami hits a running dropkick! Hideo Itami sends Breeze across the ring and meets him back in the middle with a running kick. Itami covers 1, 2, 3!
WINNER: HIDEO ITAMI
This match was perfect for the Full Sail crowd. They were behind Itami all the way, the Go To Sleep tease blew the roof off, and every big kick and nearfall for Itami got one hell of a reaction. Tyler Breeze seems like a good early gate-keeper for NXT, and that's not something that shoujld be taken lightly. WORKRATE: 3.25/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 3.75/5 OVERALL 7/10
