We go to our final commercial break before the match starts. Vampiro and Matt Striker are our regular commentators.
MATCH 3: BIG RYCK VS. JOHNNY MUNDO VS. PRINCE PUMA ($100,000 LADDER MATCH)
(Originally Aired 7th December 2014)
Prince Puma and Johnny Mundo double team Big Ryck to start. They whip him across the ring and he bails under the bottom rope. Puma turns around into a pair of right hands by Mundo before Mundo forces him into the corner. Puma is sent into the opposite corner but avoids a flying forearm. Prince Puma gets in some shots to the ribs but runs into a running leg lariat, Mundo penalty kicks a seated Puma, sending him into the corner (when he can see to find it) Mundo exits the ring for a ladder, but Big Ryck is on the outside to meet him, beating him up in front of Danny Trejo. Big Ryck puts the ladder on the apron as Vampiro explains the ladders seemingly get a lot heavier as the match goes on. Prince Puma baseball slides the ladder back into Ryck, and gets it in the ring himself. Prince Puma climbs the ladder in the middle of the ring but Mundo drags him down by the ankle. They wrestle in a tight space, with the ladder in the way, Puma slides under a clothesline attempt and the ladder so Mundo shoves it over, Puma avoids the falling ladder and hits a superman punch to Mundo. Another pair of rights and some stomps keep Mundo on the mat.
Prince Puma shoves Johnny Mundo out of the way and resets the ladder. Prince Puma gets close to the briefcase but Mundo meets him at the top to cut him off. Mundo ducks a right hand and kicks at Puma, the ladder's just too short anyway as Striker mocks WWE's Money in the Bank briefcase. Big Ryck gets back in the ring and sends the ladder over, with Mundo and Puma on top. Vampiro asks why Ryck won't climb as he brings the ladder down and charges into both opponents with it, sending them out of the ring. Big Ryck looks to climb the ladder but quickly decides against it. He motions for Castro and Cisco to come out, and they climb instead. Big Ryck watches from the corner, but Mundo and Puma are on the apron, and both hit him with an enziguri! They send him out of the ring, Mundo lays in some shots as Puma starts going to work on the cavalry. He sends Cortez out of the ring as Cisco reaches for the briefcase for an awkwardly long time. Johnny Mundo and Prince Puma tip the ladder over, sending Cisco crashing down on his buddies on the floor!
Mundo and Puma again turn on each other in the ring, Prince Puma reverses an irish whip but Mundo easily stops the momentum. Mundo sends Puma onto the ladder with a back body drop. Johnny Mundo sets the ladder up against the ropes, running up it for a somersault senton. Vampiro calls Mundo an addict for the applause and calls him out for showboating. Mundo has a table from under the ring, make that two, set up in front of Machete, like literally if Mundo over shoots it he may kill an actor. He puts Cisco on one table and climbs a ladder he's also set up. Prince Puma cuts him off. Puma is balancing on the top rope, Mundo trying to keep his balance on the ladder as they battle out in a slug fest! Puma drops Mundo's throat over the top rope from the ladder! Mundo barely stays on the apron so Puma helps him out, setting him up and picking up some speed across the ring. Mundo ducks and Puma dives through the ladder onto Ryck & Co.! Mundo pushes the ladder over but Puma is stood in the gap, avoiding any damage. Mundo misses a forearm off the apron, and Puma scrambles in the ring to grab the short ladder.
Mundo is in the ring and Puma gets the best of the inevitable tug of war. Puma uses the ladder for a step up enziguri and he postions it under the briefcase. Mundo is back on his feet and he climbs the other side of the ladder. Puma swipes for Mundo but misses, and Mundo fights his way to the top with right hands. Mundo gets his hand on the briefcase but Puma hits him in the ribs. Prince Puma brings Mundo down to the floor with a cutter off the ladder! Big Ryck and his helpers begin to pick up the pieces, bringing a second ladder into the ring. Ryck throws Puma into the corner and chokes him with a boot. Cisco takes over as Ryck moves over to beat down Mundo in another corner. The second ladder is set like a bridge between the first ladder and the top rope. Cortez sends Mundo face first into the ladder, and Cisco catapults him into it straight after. Vampiro calls it dental work, it might be a full reconstructive surgery. Fans chant “this is awesome” as their heroes are taking a beating. Welcome to modern wrestling.
Prince Puma fights to his feet, but a big knee strike from Ryck puts a stop to that. Mundo attacks him from behind. Big Ryck reverses an irish whip and knocks Mundo down with a standing clothesline, Ryck barks out orders, getting a table in the ring which he sets up in the corner. Cisco keeps the pressure on Mundo. Big Ryck goes out of the ring to Puma on the floor, and hits him with mounted rights as Cisco and Cortez bring Mundo up to the top rope. They attempt a double superplex but Mundo blocks it. He knocks Cortez down to the mat before sending Cisco through both the tables at ringside. (I forgot they were there) Striker has to ruin it by calling it “shades of Ric Flair” I mean is it really? Whatever it is it draws Ryck's attention. Johnny Mundo and Ryck stare each other out in the ring, each holding a ladder. Mundo throws his ladder at Ryck, and awkwardly steps over both ladders on his way to beating Ryck into the corner. Mundo peppers Ryck, hitting anything he can and goes to grab the ladder. Ryck's muscle mass allows him to practically shrug it off, but he gets a kick to the head by Mundo. Ryck is set up in the ropes next to Puma's resting spot, but instead Puma springboards into the ring hitting the double-knee to Mundo!
Prince Puma favours his left knee as he gets to his feet, possibly a rough landing on the last move. Cortez Castro eats a right hand in the ring but reverses an irish whip into another as Striker mentions Ryck is tired in the corner. Speaking of corners, Castro sends Puma into the corner with a table set up and softens him up with a chop. He perches Puma on the top rope but Puma blocks a superplex attempt with right hands. A headbutt makes Castro take a moment with his feet back on the ground. He attempts a second superplex but again Puma blocks it, this time sending Castro through the table with a double knees! Johnny Mundo grabs a ladder and charges into Puma with it, knocking him down. Mundo gets Puma out of the ring and sets a ladder up, Ryck's on his feet but Mundo avoids going over with the ladder. Mundo and Ryck fight over the ladder and Ryck's strength wins this battle sending Mundo into the corner. Mundo kicks Ryck under the ladder, before sending it into his head. Mundo leapfrogs the ladder into a corckscrew plancha onto a dazed Ryck!
Johnny Mundo sets Ryck up on the ladder in the corner, hitting the End of the World. Puma scales to the top rope, following with a 630 splash! Prince Puma sends Mundo down with a spinning enziguri and sets up a ladder on top of the middle rope in the corner. Vampiro says Konnan will be screaming at the monitor asking what Puma's doing as he goes to retrieve Mundo. Puma sets Mundo up on the ladder and climbs to the top rope, but Mundo is able to kick him in the skull. Mundo balances on the ladder and looks to suplerplex Puma back in the ring. Puma lifts Mundo and drops him ribs first on the ladder! Big Ryck's back in the ring and he catches Puma off the ropes with a sloppy powerbomb, he lifts him and powerbombs him onto Mundo too. Big Ryck plants Mundo in the middle of the ring with a chokeslam, and lifts Puma overhead. He slams Puma over the top rope through a ladder!
Big Ryck sets up two ladders to support his weight and sheepishly climbs to the top. Mundo is back in the ring now, and Ryck's face is priceless. Ryck misses with right hands, swinging for Mundo but Mundo is able to get close enough to drop Ryck with a low blow. Someone's jumped the barricade! He brings Mundo back down to the mat and appears to be a part of Ryck's crew, but it's not someone that anyone recognises. Mundo brings the new guy out of the ring and they fight on the floor. Mundo hits a superkick on the floor as Ryck barks orders to Castro and Cisco. They climb the ladder as Ryck keeps Mundo out on the apron. Another haymaker misses from Ryck and Mundo is able to take advantage, dropping Ryck to the mat. Mundo springboards in the ring and pushes Cisco and Castro's ladder over before finally unhooking the briefcase.
WINNER: JOHNNY MUNDO
After two months Johnny Mundo finally got the prize money he earned in week one. The match was worked at an amazing pace and all three guys looked really good. Ryck did the bare minimum, coming in to show his brute force and strength advantage whilst Mundo and Puma flew around him. Castro and Cisco gave Ryck the numbers advantage with the new guy bringing in an unseen element. Just a shame no one knew who he was. WORKRATE: 3.5/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 3.75/5 OVERALL: 7.25/10
Dario Cueto comes out of his office to congratulate Mundo... Nah, only kidding he wants his key back that Mundo took last week. Johnny Mundo calls it the key to Cueto's diary. Cueto gets in the ring and tries to persuade Johnny Mundo to give it back and hold up his end of the bargain. Mundo decks Cueto with a right hand as the show goes off the air. Which would have been fine had Striker not said 30 seconds earlier that Mundo couldn't touch Cueto in the ring.
EPISODE SUMMARY: Lucha Underground is a very consistent show overall, but some of the stories are getting close to an end now, it will be good to look at what “stage two” will bring for the performers. Still slowly introducing new talent is a brilliant touch and from everything I've heard about Cage online I look forward to his debut next week. OVERALL 6/10
