EVIL & BUSHI represent Dos Ingernobles dos Japon, with Ishii and Hirooki Goto representing the CHAOS faction. EVIL and BUSHI enter first, they are simply seen as Tetsuya Naito's henchmen. They face two potential IWGP World Heavyweight Championship contenders, and if Naito defeats Kazuchika Okada for the championship tonight (see that review here) he will want them taking out. Steve Corino and Kevin Kelly are our English announce team for this event. EVIL is in the ring before BUSHI even gets up the walkway. He catches up and Ishii and Goto make their way to the ring. Kelly and Corino say there was some controversy in Ihiis win over Roderick Strong back in February at ROH Honor Rising: Night One. I'm not sure that'll make a difference in this match. Steve Corino thinks that joining CHAOS has helped Hirooki Goto.
EVIL & BUSHI VS. HIROOKI GOTO & TOMOHIRO ISHII
NJPW Invasion Attack (10th April 2016)
Tomohiro Ishii is starting out with BUSHI. They circle as Corino says that Goto is seen as a choke artist and stooge for Okada. Los Ingernobles dos Japon take advantage of that fact and EVIL takes advantage of Ishii's back being turned, running in and jumping him from behind. He is taken to LIJ's corner, but Goto doesn't stand for it, helping his partner as the ref somehow tries to keep control. EVIL and Goto exchange forearms mid-ring as BUSHI chokes Ishii in the corner. The referee is able to break up the slugging match and get them both back to their corners, with no clear advantage. Although Kevin Kelly mentions EVIL's knees buckling slightly. EVIL gets the tag and goes right for Goto on the apron. I think we're getting a proper match now as Evil pulls back on Ishii's shoulders on the mat. Oh no, my mistake. Goto comes in and beats down on EVIL from behind. The referee is distracted by Goto so Ishii gets more of an ass-kicking by both opponents. EVIL takes on Goto some more before going back to Ishii. Ishii tries to fight back but BUSHI gets the tag, he uses his t-shirt to choke Ishii, pointing at Goto to distract the referee. He eventually notices as Ishii is on the ropes and BUSHI has to break it.
Normal match time as BUSHI hits a neckbreaker and pulls back on Ishii's face on the mat. BUSHI hits a running dropkick to the back of Ishii's head for a nearfall. Ishii takes a series of forearms getting to his feet and gets a hell of a lot of force in one of his own back at BUSHI. EVIL enters the ring and keeps Ishii from swinging too much momentum before getting the legal tag. Corino is going over Ishii's credentials as Ishii carries on going toe to toe with EVIL. Ishii gets knocked down and rolls out of the way of a senton but he can only crawl to his corner slowly. Hirooki Goto isn't even there for the tag yet. EVIL cuts Ishii off before taking him back to a neutral corner. EVIL sends Ishii across the ring but misses the charge, Ishii sets him up for a german suplex but EVIL avoids it with an elbow, Ishii ducks a clothesline and hits a Saito suplex out of nowhere for the hot tag!
Goto smashes EVIL with forearms dropping him to his knees before kicking him in the chest. Goto sends EVIL out to ringside before throwing him into the guard rails on the floor. An announcement goes out for the fans as BUSHI comes to his partner's aide, but it doesn't do him any good as he's knocked to the floor with a forearm. Goto brings it back in the ring kicking at EVIL's back. Hirooki Goto sends EVIL across the ring with a hair-assisted irish whip, following him with a running heel kick in the corner. Goto gets a nearfall from a Saito suplex of his own, and now he's doing well Steve Corino goes through his accolades including “although he's never won the big one...” as a starting line. EVIL catches a kick by Goto and plants him on the mat with a fisherman's buster. That took as much out of EVIL but he's still the first to his feet. He tries to lift Goto on his shoulders, Goto begins elbowing, but EVIL hoists him up. There are more desperation elbows by Goto before he's planted into the mat! EVIL kicks at Goto on the mat as Kevin Kelly says CHAOS could be at an advantage since BUSHI is the only junior in this match. Neither man budges as they meet for clotheslines in the ring. They each duck one then a double clothesline takes them both down! EVIL seemed to get the worst of that exchange and Tiger Itori, the veteran NJPW referee, tries to urge each man to get up.
Each man decides that tagging out is easier. BUSHI is caught in a quick powerslam but sends Ishii into the corner. Ishii is able to use it as a springboard to knock BUSHI down with a shoulder tackle! Tomohiro Ishii hits a vertical suplex on BUSHI for a nearfall. BUSHI is set up for a powerbomb but fights out with right hands and hits a rolling kick on Ishii, Ishii reverses an irish whip, sending Bushi into the corner but is caught with a swinging kick. Corino says Ishii's neck and lower back are the only places you can hurt him. He's indestructible everywhere else. BUSHI hits a missile dropkick from the top rope. BUSHI hits a pair of running dropkicks, first to Ishii's knee, then his chest but can only get 2. Goto has been knocked off the apron again and EVIL's in the ring. He clotheslines Ishii in the corner before sending him into BUSHI for a lungblower for a nearfall. EVIL and Goto are going at it on the outside, as Ishii avoids a suplex yet can't get BUSHI over for one of his own. BUSHI picks up some speed but runs into a hard lariat. Ishii hits his second attempt at a powerbomb for a nearfall.
EVIL enters the ring as Ishii has BUSHI up for a brainbuster. BUSHI slides out the back sending Ishii into a lariat from EVIL. Goto is right there to help his partner though, and he headbutts EVIL sending him to the floor. BUSHI escapes the GTR, Goto misses a kick one way but gets hit when BUSHI swings it back. BUSHI runs across the ring, and is able to avoid an Ishii lariat but gets caught in the GTR! Sliding lariat by Ishii keeps BUSHI down for the three count.
WINNERS: CHAOS
I really don't know how to feel about this match. Tomohiro Ishii is someone I really wanted to see a lot of, but this was certainly the wrong match to choose. Maybe shouldn't have gone with the first one I saw. It was a basic match, everyone got to do their thing and I saw a GTR which is pretty cool. I need to see more of Ishii. EVIL is someone I feel I could enjoy his work if I really looked and BUSHI needed to show me more. Goto, I have a lot to catch up on by the sounds of the commentary on the match and I look forward to it. – WORKRATE: 3/5 PERSONAL ENJOYMENT 1.75/5 OVERALL 4.75/10
Tomorrow it's over to RevPro in England for another match from High Stakes 2016! With being ahead again I shall also add a Rewatch tomorrow so I can return to a former project for a while.
