EL MARIACHI LOCO VS. MASCARITA SAGRADA

I suddenly remembered I had access to Lucha Underground on my laptop, so my journey to 250 is going to be quite easy. For this week I will be having a more international/Indy feel. The third episode of Lucha Underground was named "Crossing the Border." We're only two shows into the series and already it's pretty crazy. Chavo Guerrero Jr. feels unappreciated so he decides to brain Sexy Star with a chair. Ezekiel Jackson likes California and Mexican gangsters, and a Mexican business man has already tried to kill Blue Demon Jr 1,000 times. Let's see what's going on this week. The introductory video package show's Chavo's quick journey to insanity. We see Konnan in Dario Cuerto's office. He says he's brought over three of the best young guys in Mexico, Pentagon Jr, Fenix and Drago. Dario is interested, and he says tonight he'll put them against each other. May the best man win. Vampiro and Matt Striker welcome us from commentary and Vampiro wishes Blue Demon Jr a speedy recovery after ensuring us he's in stable condition.

Melissa Santos introduces El Jefe, who has someone with him, I don't know who. The fans chant something offensive at him in Spanish so he thanks them and welcomes them to his temple. He says people have been complaining there isn't enough Lucha in Lucha Underground.... (guilty.... but at least I admit it's only been two weeks!) he introduces the man in the ring as El Mariachi Loco, he's crazy and plays a mean trumpet. “Where's the rest of the band” - Striker. Cuerto says he may play a song after his victory and the fans want it now. Cuerto says there's no challenge too big for Mariachi Loco before leaving for his office. This brings out Mascarita Sagrada, a Mini wrestler. Matt Striker gives him the usual patronising American greeting for Mini wrestlers, Vampiro sows due respect. Some fans are on a raised balcony and really strain to reach him. Vampiro translates his name to “The Mystical Mask” and Striker clarifies that the -ita at the end of his name is exclusively for smaller wrestlers.

EL MARIACHO LOCO VS. MASCARITA SAGRADA
SEASON 1 EPISODE 3 - “Crossing the Border”
First Aired 12th November 2014

Mariacho Loco begins laughing off his opponent as the bell rings and Vampiro leads a “Mascarita” chant. El Mariacho Loco reaches for a test of strength where Sagrada has to reach, then gets on his knees and offers a handshake. Loco brings his hand back and a jumping enziguri teaches him not to be a prick. He takes the boots to Loco as Striker mentions a strategy in a dickish way. Loco sends Sagrada across the ring but he ducks a clothesline and sends him into the corner with a satelitte headscissors. Loco catches Sagrada in a hip toss, but Sagrada bounces back off the top rope, countering into an arm drag. Sagrada gets a running start on a wheelbarrow arm drag sending Loco out of the ring. Sagrada follows with a swandive senton through the ropes as Striker isn't sure about Political Correctness right now, so decides to have fun. He's really ruining this match. They both get back in the ring and Loco sends Mascarita across the ring with a kick to the chest. Getting boos from the crowd. Sagrada slides out to the apron and hits a shoulder tackle through the ropes before hitting a flying headscissors from the top rope. Mascaritia Sagrada rolls Loco up for a nearfall!

El Marichi Loco is quick to his feet and another kick sends Sagrada down. Sagrada is sent across the ring by his mask before Loco pulls back on his neck on the mat. Sagrada is brought to his feet and El Mariachi Loco sends him across the ring completely missing a backbreaker. Ouch, shit that had to hurt.... Loco covers but stops the referee's count at two. A jab knocks Mascarita down, as does a funky superkick before El Mariachi Loco mocks Mascarita Sagrada. Sagrada sent across the ring again but this time Loco drops him with a flapjack. El Mariachi Loco takes some time telling the crowd what he thought of them before covering Sagrada with one foot for a nearfall. Loco takes his time getting to the top ring, mocking the crowd and Sagrada, but Sagrada rolls to avoid a swanton bomb. Sagrada is caught on one of Loco's shoulders but uses the momentum to counter into a DDT! 1, 2, no! Sagrada tries a second DDT but gets caught. He wraps himself around El Mariachi Loco with some guillotine-like Darcey choke or something similar (MMA fans will know) El Mariachi Loco falls to the mat with his shoulders down and Mascarita Sagrada gets the win.

The match itself was awesome. It got Sagrada over as a Mini that can go with anyone (a lot better than their attempt with Sexy Star in episode 1) and El Mariachi Loco looked like a servicable heel. Matt Striker's commentary was a bit mehhh... at the beginning, Mascarita Sagrada shouldn't have to earn Striker's respect but by this match he had. It was even and a nice showcase for both wrestlers. I'm looking forward to seeing more of their work. – WR 3.5/5 PE 1.25/5 OVR 4.75/10

Chavo Guerrero Jr comes out to ruin the celebration and lead us into commercial. After which Matt Striker recaps Chavo's path of destruction. Vampiro sat down with Chavo earlier in the week for some answers. Vamp says Chavo's been riding the coat-tails of the Guerrero name, but what is he going to do here in Lucha Underground? Chavo goes through his family members and says he's done things their way out of respect, but now it's time to do things his way. Vampiro goes over Chavo Guerrero's loss to Blue Demon Jr. on Lucha Underground's debut episode. Chavo goes on to bury Blue Demon Jr as never as good as his dad. He says he's been a champion everywhere but Lucha Underground. (They don't have one at this point Chavo) and he'll take out a legend if he has to, just to make his name. If Blue Demon was here and not in the hospital Chavo would tell him that now they both know Guerrero's better. Vampiro finishes by telling Chavo he has issues.

Tomorrow I move over to Japan for another match from NJPW Invasion Attack 2014, before bringing the blog home to England for Revolution Pro Wrestling to almost break my own rule again!
