Your commentary team for this
match is Jerry “The King” Lawler, John “Bradshaw” Layfield
and Michael Cole. Roman Reigns cost Orton a shot at the WWE World
Heavyweight Championship so Orton attacked him. Simple enough reason
for a match. We get a video of the attack on Raw, showing Randy as a
saddistic bastard. Michael Cole plugs Night of Champions next month
as Reigns enters through the crowd looking focused. Roman Reigns has
said he wants Orton to respect him after tonight, Orton has called
himself Roman's kryptonite, as he's taken over John Cena as WWE's
resident Superman, or at least is in the process of doing so.
RANDY
ORTON VS. ROMAN REIGNS
WWE Summerslam (17th August 2014)
They stand talking sports as
the bell rings, then Reigns knocks Orton into the corner with right
hands. Reigns gets in a headbutt before Orton swings the momentum
sending Roman across the ring, Roman headbutts Orton again, so he
takes a walk. Roman follows but Orton catches him with a right hand
and boot to the gut. Uppercut by Roman and he sends Orton back into
the ring. Orton kicks Reigns in the gut as he gets back in the ring
but Reigns irish whips Orton and knocks him down with a back elbow.
Reigns takes Orton's arm and beats him into the corner with strikes.
Reigns hits just one mounted punch before Orton slumps into the
turnbuckles and Reigns slams his head on another corner. Orton avoids
another mounted punch, but takes a right hand before Reigns
clotheslines him out to the floor. Reigns follows Randy Orton around
ringside, hitting his head off the barrier, but Orton reverses an
irish whip sending Reigns into the steps.
Back in the ring Orton covers
but Reigns kicks out after one, so Orton applies the dreaded CHINLOCK
OF DOOM! Reigns is able to roll and get to his feet, hitting Orton
with left and rights before breaking Orton's grip. Reigns sends Orton
into the ropes but ducks early and pays for it, getting slammed back
into the mat. Orton poses for the crowd, and they cheer because let's
face it, he's only ever interesting as a heel. He walks around Reigns
for the Garvin Stomps but Reigns avoids the knee drop. Reigns gets to
Orton first but Orton sends him into the corner. Reigns gets his boot
up before lifting himself up to perch on the top rope. Orton hits him
with some right hands, setting him up, another headbutt softens
Reigns before Orton climbs to the middle rope, dropping Reigns with a
superplex! We get a replay as Orton slides himself over to Reigns for
a cover. Randy Orton only gets a nearfall from his daddy's finisher.
Chinlock is applied on the mat
now, this time keeping his own bodyweight on top of Reigns. Reigns
tries to wriggle Orton's arm loose, but Orton has it in tight, Reigns
gets to his feet in a headlock before sending Randy off the ropes.
Reigns catches him in the middle of the ring with a sleeper hold.
Reigns jumps on Orton's back, so Orton thinks quick and falls back to
break the hold. Only momentarily though as Reigns grabs a chinlock on
the mat! Orton struggles to his feet, and moves so he's in a side
headlock. He picks Reigns up with a back suplex. Orton catches his
breath then covers but only gets 2 still. Chinloco og Doom III: More
Leverage is applied. Reigns starts to fade, not having much left in
the tank at this point in the match, but he does fight to his feet
and break it up with jabs to Orton's ribs. Roman Reigns reverses an
irish whip into a Samoan drop! Roman Reigns can't capitalise on it
and both men get counted down.
Randy Orton gets to his feet
at 4, with Reigns not far behind so they exchange right hands in the
middle of the ring. Orton tries a kick to the gut so Reigns replies
in kind. Reigns gets the advantage with a headbutt, and clotheslines
Orton down. Orton gets to his feet in the corner but gets squashed
with a charging clothesline. An uppercut by Reigns drapes Orton over
the bottom rope, setting him up for the least impressive Drive-By
boot I've seen, although Cole and JBL cream themselves over it. It's
enough to persuade Orton out to ringside, rushing him into the
barrier back first. Orton reverses an irish whip and sends Reigns
into the barrier near the timekeepers. Randy Orton sends Reigns into
the ring post on his way to the ring, and covers for a nearfall. We
get a replay of the running dropkick again, and it only looks
slightly better. We see Reigns getting sent into the ringpost again
as Orton dumps Reigns through the ropes hitting a back suplex on he
announce table. Orton sends Reigns into the ring steps
Orton takes his time, posing
for the crowd again and getting Reigns back in the ring at 8. Roman
Reigns drops to the mat, hitting a jawbreaker on Orton over the top
rope and sending him into the top turnbuckle from the apron. They
both begin to climb and Orton avoids a superplex. Randy Orton takes
too long climbing down from the top rope and gets caught with a right
hand. Reigns hits a Samoan drop from the middle rope and slowly
crawls for the cover. Roman Reigns only gets a nearfall and he sits
thinking what it might take to put Orton away. Roman Reigns sets up
for the Superman punch and hits it with perfection. Randy Orton's
down and out, but Reigns doesn't think he's finished yet, Roman
Reigns sets up for the Spear, but ORTON CAUGHT HIM! Powerslam by
Orton! Roman Reigns rolls himself out to the apron but is in perfect
position for the draping DDT! Randy Orton starts stalking Reigns,
Reigns avoids an RKO sending Orton off the ropes but falls victim to
a second! 1, 2, 2.99999! Reigns got his shoulder up just in time.
Randy Orton begs the referee and the fans that it was three. Finally
Orton accepts that it isn't, backing into the corner... Reigns sweeps
Orton's leg to avoid the punt, then hits a Spear! Reigns covers 1, 2,
3!
WINNER: ROMAN REIGNS
I couldn't tell who was winning this match all
throughout, the false finishes kept me guessing and that's the least
I look for in my wrestling. A lot of the match was chinlocks which is
to be expected in Randy Orton matches, especially against a guy like
Reigns who's better off in short explosive matches as best he can. He
doesn't have the moveset to keep Orton interesting. Reigns got to
avoid one RKO and kick out of another within twenty seconds and both
men got all their stuff in, including a Punt kick tease at the end.
Not amazing but I don't feel I've wasted my time watching it. –
