MATT MORGAN VS. ABYSS

Before the match, interviewer Lauren is backstage with Abyss. She says that Abyss has vowed not to use weapons in the Chamber of Blood match. Great timing. Abyss says tonight is about survival, which is what he does best. He’s going to take everything Morgan has to offer and then let out all of his frustrations. A video shows the brutality of the steel cage, but Abyss feels at home within the steel. The Doomsday Chamber of Blood also has barbed wire wrapped around the top of the cage and bags of broken glass and thumbtacks from what it shows. Matt Morgan walks out first as Mike Tenay says that this isn’t a first blood match, your opponent has to be bleeding before you can take the chance to win. He throws a chair over the cage wall and takes a bag in with him.

MATT MORGAN VS. ABYSS

TNA Lockdown 2009 (19th April 2009)

Abyss ducks a chair shot and punches the chair back into Matt Morgan, Abyss swings wildly with lefts and rights as Morgan tries to cover up.

Matt Morgan drives his knee into Abyss’ midsection, then throws knees in a clinch. Abyss sends Morgan into the corner and hits the running splash. Matt Morgan slumps in the corner for the fat arse attack then clocks Abyss with right hands. Abyss is measured up for the running Big Boot as the fans chant for blood. Abyss catches Morgan in a sidewalk slam, Abyss hesitates to pick up the chair and he gets caught with a Carbon Footprint knocking the chair into his head. Abyss is bleeding so Morgan gets rid of the chair from the ring and opens up the wound with punches. Matt Morgan sends Abyss into the cage and covers for 2. Matt Morgan boots Abyss before hitting back elbows in the corner. Morgan hits a running clothesline in the corner and hits Abyss with a dropkick before covering again. Abyss kicks out at 2, so Morgan punches at the forehead again, getting blood on his hand for a sick visual.

Matt Morgan empties the bag he brought in the ring with him and it’s broken glass. He just leaves a pile of it in the ring and holds Abyss over the shards, trying to force Abyss into the edges. Abyss fights Morgan off with elbows. Matt Morgan spends too much time picking a piece of glass and Abyss fights it away from his face, Abyss connects with right hands and knocks Matt Morgan down with a shoulder tackle. Abyss sends Matt Morgan into four of the six cage walls and hits a Chokeslam. Abyss covers but it doesn’t count because Morgan isn’t bleeding. Here’s a point that they have a split-second break in the video that I’ve never understood. It continues as if there’s no break so I don’t know what it is. Anyway, Matt Morgan connects with a knee to the midsection and dives from the top rope, mowing down the referee. We see a replay of Matt Morgan hitting the ref with a crossbody as Abyss has one of the pieces of glass. He smashes it into Matt Morgan’s forehead so now Morgan can be pinned.

They exchange right hands, Abyss is knocked back into the ropes but catches Matt Morgan with a Blackhole Slam. Abyss covers but the referee’s still down. Slick Johnson runs down from the back 1, 2, Morgan kicks out at what would have been 6 with a real count. Abyss is somehow shocked that Morgan kicked out after a nap, but he leaves the cage and grabs the chair. Dr. Stevie runs down to the ring and takes the chair from Abyss. Abyss turns around into a Carbon Footprint, 1, 2, 2.9! Abyss leaves the ring again to beg Stevie Richards for the chair, but the doc isn’t giving it up, telling Abyss no more violence. It’s like a tee-total drug dealer. Abyss grabs another bag from underneath the ring. Abyss empties the thumbtacks onto the canvas, but Stevie is in the ring. He slaps at Abyss for not listening to the therapy and that gives Matt Morgan time to hit Abyss with a low blow.

Matt Morgan hits the Chokebomb on the tacks! Matt Morgan covers for the win as Dr. Stevie Richards leaves, satisfied with his work.

WINNER: MATT MORGAN

I seem to be randomly selecting Abyss’ least hardcore matches. This was a basic match, I always hate when wrestlers forget the rules or “instinctively go for a cover” but that’s a personal gripe. The match had the potential to be a lot more but I was sat waiting for something to happen, and Matt Morgan needed Stevie fucking Richards to help him win against a guy that refused to use weapons for most of the match. [*½] 2/10
