MICK FOLEY VS. ABYSS

Before the match, Abyss and Mick Foley are in Eric Bischoff’s office. Eric says he doesn’t want any shenanigans in the match where they might go easy on each other or he’ll remove Abyss’ mask. This scares the guy who takes on barbed wire matches like they’re going out of fashion. Foley asks how they will know Bischoff isn’t just claiming they were going easy on each other and Bischoff ups the stakes making it a No Disqualification match. He hands them a barbed wire baseball bat and says he wants it used in the match before they leave his office. Abyss is saying he can’t hurt Foley.

Abyss makes his way out first as Tenay and Taz go over the mask stipulation again. Mick Foley still has the baseball bat so there’s a talking point for his entrance too.

Taz and Mike Tenay are on commentary for this match.

ABYSS VS. MICK FOLEY

(No Disqualifications) - 8 Card Stud Quarterfinal

TNA Against All Odds 2010 (14th February 2010)

They lock up and Abyss gets a headlock, Tenay says this might not be what Eric Bischoff meant. Foley sends Abyss into the ropes but is knocked back and sent off his feet with a shoulder tackle. Foley goes for the bat early but Abyss cuts him off, trying to kick the bat away.

Mick Foley is knocked back into the corner, Abyss sends him across the ring and squashes him against the turnbuckles. The fans chant for Abyss to use the bat, he picks it up but can’t bring himself to use it. Mick Foley slaps Abyss around the face and tells him to use the bat. Foley connects with forearms in the corner but Abyss fights back, knocking Mick Foley out of the ring. Mick Foley fights back on the floor and grabs a chair from the crowd, hitting Abyss with it. Abyss fights back as Foley tries to throw him in the ring. Foley sends Abyss’ head into the ring steps and asks if he wants to use the bat before sending Abyss into the ring. Foley grabs the barbed wire bat but runs into Abyss’ boot in the corner. Abyss chokes Mick Foley, leaning him back against the ropes before sending him across the ring. Abyss ducks too early and is dropped with a neckbreaker,

Mick Foley connects with right hands, leaving Abyss slumped in the corner for a running knee lift. Mick Foley empties a bag of thumbtacks on to the mat, Abyss absorbs some right hands but is able to keep his balance on the edge of the tacked area. Foley hits the ropes and runs into the goozle. Abyss can’t Chokeslam Mick onto the thumbtacks, so he Chokeslams him on the mat. The fans chant for the barbed wire baseball bat again, but Abyss stomps Foley and finds the sock. Mick Foley ducks the Mandible Claw and hits the Double-Arm DDT for 2. Mick Foley takes the referee’s sock but walks into the Mandible Claw. Mick Foley puts on a Mandible Claw of his own and Abyss sells it like fire. It does mean we don’t see the Mandible Claw battle though. Abyss kicks Foley in the midsection but Mick Foley goes back to the Mandible Claw. Abyss fades but Mick Foley releases the hold before the referee can check his arm 3 times.

Mick Foley grabs the barbed wire baseball bat, but is cut off with a Blackhole Slam into the thumbtacks! Abyss covers and it’s enough for the win.

WINNER: ABYSS

The barbed wire baseball bat didn’t get used, so I guess Abyss loses his mask on Thursday. This was a limited match due to the story they were telling with Abyss and I wish I knew that before committing myself. Abyss getting the win by defending himself from the bat and inadvertently hurting Foley made sense but it didn’t make for much of an interesting match. [*] 2/10
