KEVIN NASH VS. SID VICIOUS

Tony Schiavone is straight in “The only way to win the match is with a Powerbomb. Sid Vicious makes his way out first, followed by Kevin Nash. Schiavone talks over the nWo Wolfpac theme, which sucks. Scott Hall would normally be out here with Kevin Nash but he no-showed tonight’s event.

Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan and Scott Hudson are on commentary for this match.

SID VICIOUS VS. KEVIN NASH (Powerbomb match)

WCW Starrcade 1999 (19th December 1999)

They lock up, Kevin Nash has to connect with a knee to the midsection and he connects with right hands. Sid is backed into the corner for more knee strikes and back elbows.

Sid Vicious is sent off the ropes into an awkward-looking clothesline, Nash covers for 2. What? Sid Vicious ducks another clothesline, setting up a Powerbomb but Nash counters with a low blow in front of the referee. Sid goes for a walk outside but Nash follows. Kevin Nash clubs at Sid’s back and sets up a Powerbomb on the floor. Sid Vicious pushes Nash into the side of the ring and kind of connects with a kick to the midsection. Sid drives Nash into the side of the ring and sends him into the guard rail. Scott Hudson kind of clarifies the rules saying it’s a normal match but a Powerbomb instantly ends it. Sid works on Nash’s back and midsection before sending him into the guardrail again.

Kevin Nash is punched out of a chair and Sid hits him across the back with it. But this is late WCW so that doesn’t guarantee a no-disqualification match. Sid brings it back into the ring and sends Nash off the ropes into a clothesline. Sid Vicious hits a leg drop and takes time to celebrate, Kevin Nash is knocked down with right hands and slams Nash to the mat. Kevin Nash equalises with a thumb to the eye and gets sent into referee Mark Johnson in the corner. Sid hits something resembling a Powerbomb but has trouble lifting up Nash. Jeff Jarrett appears in the ring and hits Sid with a guitar before kicking the evidence out of the ring. Kevin Nash gets to his feet, as does the referee. Kevin Nash drags Sid to his feet but can’t lift him for the Jacknife Powerbomb.

Kevin Nash’s back is too hurt to lift Vicious so Kevin Nash revives the referee and tells Mark Johnson that he (Nash) hit the Powerbomb for the win.

WINNER: KEVIN NASH

This was absolute bullshit. I expected a basic match with punches and kicks (which I got) but even after being explained on commentary, what I saw during the match had no consistent theme. We also got the finish we were promised when Sid hit the Powerbomb, but when Kevin Nash simply told the referee that he hit the move all of the goodwill completely went. I don’t even care that it was set up by a chairshot because rules hadn’t meant anything since the early nearfall. [½*] 0/10
