Randy Savage teams with Ricky Steamboat, Brutus Beefcake, Jake Roberts and Jim Duggan

Jesse Ventura and Gorilla Monsoon are on commentary for this match. Hony Tonk Man’s team are in the ring as we cut to ringside, Ricky Steamboat is the first man to enter in Survivor Series history, followed by Brutus, Jake Roberts and Jim Duggan. The crowd wakes up as team captain, Randy Savage enters with Elisabeth.

  Brutus Beefcake and Hercules start the match, they lock up but break before anything happens, Beefcake struts which annoys Hercules. He knees Beefcake in the gut and snapmares him down.

  Hercules puts on a chinlock but Barber is back on his feet, he snapmares Hercules down but misses the fist drop. Hercules grabs a headlock and is sent off the ropes, he knocks Brutus Beefcake down with a shoulder tackle. Hercules hits the ropes and Beefcake leapfrogs him, Hercules is trapped in the Sleeperhold, he stumbles over to his corner and makes a tag, but there’s some confusion. Beefcake hits Danny Davis and Ron Bass with a hip toss each and waits for the referee to do his job. Danny Davis is brought in the hard way, Beefcake slams him and tags in Jake Roberts, who works the arm and sends Davis into Steamboat’s boot. Ricky Steamboat gets the tag and just connects with a move from the top rope. He barely connects with a martial arts kick as something is off tonight, Davis is sent into the corner but he gets his boot up, stunning Steamboat long enough to get a tag to Harley Race. Race hits a shoulder breaker in the middle of the ring and sends Steamboat’s head into the turnbuckle.

  Ricky Steamboat is sent into the corner but lands on the middle rope, he hits the Karate chop on Race, they exchange strikes and Harley Race tries to send Steamboat to the floor, but he skins the cat, over the other side Ricky Steamboat is sent over the top rope, but again brings himself back into the ring, reversing the motion. Harley Race charges and is sent over the top to the floor by Steamboat. Harley Race is ushered back in the ring by Bobby Heenan at ringside, he hits a belly to belly and covers Steamboat but only gets 2. Ricky Steamboat avoids Race as he makes a tag to Jim Duggan, who backs Harley into the ropes with right hands. Duggan gets a run-up and clotheslines Race over to the floor, they brawl to the double count-out. They’re replaced with Jake Roberts and Ron Bass. They pull each other down by the hair, Roberts goes to lock up but Bass rakes his eyes and slams Jake Roberts, Roberts rolls out of the way of the elbow drop and tags in Randy Savage.

  A running knee sends Bass into the corner, he’s sent across to the other side and stumbles out into a back elbow. Ron Bass is snapmared out of the corner, Savage hits a knee drop and covers but Bass kicks out at 1. Randy Savage slams Bass and goes after Honky Tonk Man on the apron, but Bass is able to level him with a clothesline before tagging his team captain in. Honky Tonk Man lays the boots in, but Savage fights to his feet, they brawl over to the heels’ corner and Ron Bass tags back in. Savage is sent across the ring into a back elbow, Bass covers and only gets 2. Randy Savage is sent into the ropes again, he ducks a clothesline and connects with a running elbow, knocking Ron Bass into the ropes. Ron Bass is able to cut off Savage’s attempt at a tag, he puts on a side headlock, but they work over to Savage’s corner, Brutus Beefcake gets the tag and eliminates Bass with a knee lift. Hercules enters the match, laying straight into Beefcake, he starts working the arm and tags Honky Tonk Man back in. HTM taunts Savage, distracting the referee.

  Brutus Beefcake is closer to his corner than Ventura likes, Honky Tonk Man transitions into an arm wringer and drags him back, tagging Hercules back in. Brutus Beefcake fights out of the armbar, but Hercules grapevines his leg, trapping Brutus with the Honky Tonk Man’s team, HTM is tagged in, keeping control of Beefcake’s arm. Beefcake fights out with more right hands as Savage takes liberties cheering Beefcake on away from his corner on the apron. Honky Tonk man drives his elbow into Beefcake’s arm and tags Hercules back in. Not for long as Beefcake fights out of the arm wringer and drops Hercules with right hands. Hercules grapevines the ankle and gets the tag to Honky Tonk Man. Jesse Ventura says Beefcake could tap out from the arm wringer, it has been on a while but that must be the first time in the 1980’s if it did happen. Brutus Beefcake fights out with an atomic drop, he connects with a combination of punches, which is when he should have tagged out. Instead, he tags Honky Tonk Man with an elbow to the top of the head and sends him into the top turnbuckle.

  Brutus Beefcake connects with another combination of strikes, he hits the ropes but is either tripped from the outside or Danny Davis hit him. Either way, a Shake Rattle & Roll neckbreaker sends Beefcake to the back. Randy Savage charges at HTM, but Hercules gets the tag. Hercules beats down Savage in the corner before going to talk to Jake Roberts. Randy Savage is knocked down with right hands, Honky Tonk Man takes a cheap shot from the apron and Danny Davis gets the tag. Savage fights back and forces Davis into the ropes, but Honky Tonk Man tags in. Randy Savage is sent off the ropes, he ducks a clothesline and knocks down HTM with an elbow. Jake Roberts tags in and starts throwing hands, HTM avoids the DDT but is sent into the corner. Roberts runs into knees, Honky Tonk Man takes control with elbows to the top of Jake’s head. Danny Davis chokes Jake Roberts over the top rope as Hercules gets the tag. Hercules knocks Jake down with right hands, he covers but only gets 2, another cover gets 1 and Hercules remembers to hook the leg for another 2 count. Danny Davis gets the tag, connecting with shots to the midsection and a headbutt. Honky Tonk takes advantage of a distracted referee, taking a shot from the apron.

  The crowd chants for the DDT and Roberts starts no-selling. Jake Roberts hits right hands and a short-arm clothesline before eliminating Davis with the DDT. Hercules clotheslines Jake Roberts and hits an elbow drop for 2. Honky Tonk Man gets the tag, taking a shot at Roberts as Hercules holds him. Savage goes after HTM, but is taken back to his corner. Hercules chokes Roberts in the Heels corner and HTM snapmares Roberts down for a knee drop. Honky Tonk Man gets 2 and goes to the reverse chinlock, Jake Roberts fights to his feet and breaks the chinlock, a knee lift drops Honky Tonk but he makes the tag to Hercules. Hercules drops his knee across Jake’s back and putting him in a chinlock.Jake Roberts fights to his feet, but Hercules had his body between Jake and the tag. Jake Roberts takes Hercules down with an arm drag but is put back in the chinlock before he can get to the corner. Jake Roberts almost fades, but breaks the chinlock with a jawbreaker before tagging in Ricky Steamboat. Steamboat hits the ropes and connects with right hands and chops, knocking Hercules down. Ricky Steamboat hits a shot from the top turnbuckle and a falling chop before slamming Hercules. Randy Savage gets the tag and hits the Elbow Drop to eliminate Hercules.

  Randy Savage meets Honky Tonk Man with left hands and an elbow before sending him into the corner. Honky Tonk Man moves at the last second, sending Savage into the corner. Honky Tonk Man attacks Savage’s back with knee strikes and clubbing blows. Randy Savage is sent off the ropes, he ducks the back elbow and knocks Honky Tonk Man down. Ricky Steamboat gets the tag, connecting with right hands and chops. Honky Tonk Man reverses an irish whip but Steamboat slides underneath, connecting with more strikes. Jake Roberts gets the tag and the fans just want another DDT. Honky Tonk Man is sent off the ropes, he tries to get Roberts down in a sunset flip but Jake Roberts connects with a right hand. More right hands before Roberts tags in Randy Savage. Savage hits an ax handle from the middle rope, he chokes Honky Tonk Man and connects with right hands and an elbow. Randy Savage hits a double axe handle from the top rope and Ventura says he should put Honky Tonk Man away. It’s hard to disagree.

  Randy Savage hits an atomic drop which sends Honky Tonk Man over the top rope to the floor. Honky Tonk Man leaves with Jimmy Hart and his belt to take the count out loss.

WINNERS: RANDY SAVAGE, RICKY STEAMBOAT & JAKE ROBERTS

This was a good introduction to the event. Everyone wanted to see Honky Tonk Man get beaten up by his last 5 challengers, he rounded up the people they were feuding on and only got involved when he felt comfortable to. All of the babyfaces got some time to shine and Jake Roberts did well taking the heat for a good portion of the match. [***] 6/10.
