Curtis Axel makes his way out first with Paul Heyman, R-Truth beat the champion on the previous edition of Raw to earn this match. Curtis Axel got his revenge on Smackdown, which we see as R-Truth raps his way to the ring as JBL sings along.

They lock up, Curtis Axel shoves R-Truth away but R-Truth ducks a right hand, connecting with some of his own.
There’s already a few guys in the crowd chanting “boring” as Curtis Axel is sent off the ropes into a back elbow. Curtis Axel is sent into the top turnbuckle and we already get a Curt Hennig mention. Axel blocks it, getting sick of hitting his head, but is knocked down. R-Truth connects with right hands in the corner and has a chat with the referee before climbing up for the 10-punches. R-Truth gets an early 2 count with a hip toss. R-Truth clotheslines Axel over to the floor and hits another clothesline before bringing it back to the ring and getting another 2 count. Curtis Axel goes to the floor, getting some advice from Heyman. R-Truth follows, he grabs Axel’s foot but is kicked into the barricade. Curtis Axel rams R-Truth into the barricade and brings it back to the ring.
Curtis Axel covers and R-Truth kicks out at 1. Curtis Axel connects with elbow drops for 2 as we see R-Truth go into the barricade again. Axel pulls at R-Truth’s face by the ropes until R-Truth fights back. R-Truth runs into a dropkick as Paul Heyman plays cheerleader from ringside. Curtis Axel covers again for 2, so he goes to the chinlock. R-Truth fights to his feet as we see the dropkick again, Curtis Axel clubs R-Truth down but runs into a heel kick. Curtis Axel runs into a boot and a back elbow in the corner, R-Truth knocks him down with clotheslines but Axel avoids he Scissor Kick. R-Truth is shoved into the ropes but he rolls Axel up for 2. R-Truth connects with a kick to the midsection, Scissor Kick connects! 1, 2, No! R-Truth lifts Axel for a suplex and changes direction into a facebuster for another 2. Curtis Axel avoids the Lie Detector by holding on to the top rope.
Curtis Axel gets kicked in the ribs by R-Truth
but the challenger runs into a stun gun on the top turnbuckle! Curtis Axel hit
a neckbreaker into a face-first slam for the win.

This match was nothing special, and
that’s being kind. It was jarring for see this with commentary talking about Axel
being a great “Paul Heyman Guy”. The crowd didn’t care after R-Truth’s entrance
and this was supposed to be a chance for him to move up the ladder, so they
were in a no-win situation. [*¾] 3/10
