BROCK LESNAR (C) VS. UNDERTAKER

Before the match, Marc Lloyd interviews Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. He says the feud between the champion and Undertaker has become personal. Heyman says it’s personal whenever the WWE Championship is involved. Lesnar isn’t sorry for what he did to Taker’s wife and he won’t be sorry for what he does to Undertaker either.

Eric Bischoff makes his way to the ring for the HLA “Accompanied by the Lesbians” must be a first call for Howard Finkel. Eric introduces them as Peaches and Cream. He asks for a sneak preview before stopping them at the last moment before introducing Stephanie McMahon and JR picks a weird time to mention he’s known Stephanie since she was a child, which King makes worse. Eric says he’s made tonight’s HLA a 3-way. Some clothing is removed before Peaches and Cream rub Mrs Triple H’s back. Eric chants for HLA again before changing his mind at the last second and excusing the lesbians. To paraphrase what Eric says for 2023, he also found a lesbian with a great personality. Of course, this brings out a transvestite. What else would happen? Bischoff again demands HLA as this segment is really dragging. Stephanie McMahon embraces the transvestite and Bischoff asks what the hell is going on. Eric eats a superkick, and Rikishi removes his disguise! Bischoff is knocked into the corner for the Stink Face before dancing some PPV time away.

Since Undertaker debuted in WWE he’s become a legend and mainstayin the locker room. In that time Brock Lesnar became a High School and College wrestling champion. Undertaker beat Chris Benoit to become the #1 contender, and they ended up involving his pregnant wife Sara, which looks like different woman to the InVasion Sara. Undertaker is the first one out, not riding his bike for some reason. Brock Lesnar is out next with Paul Heyman. So far in his WWE career Brock hasn’t been pinned or submitted.

Michael Cole and Tazz are on commentary for this match

WWE Unforgiven 2002 (12th September 2002)

Brock Lesnar goes nose-to-nose with Undertaker at the bell and gets shoved back. He shoots for a takedown then backs into the corner to avoid Undertaker’s strikes. Brock Lesnar shoves Undertaker back from the collar-elbow tie up, but Undertaker is able to shove Lesnar out of the ring on the second attempt.

Brock Lesnar storms around ringside and gets a headlock back inside. Undertaker sends him off the ropes but is dropped with a shoulder tackle. Brock Lesnar goes jogging into a hip toss and gets clotheslined over to the floor. Lesnar kicks the ring steps out of frustration before utilising the count outside. Brock Lesnar connects with a knee to the midsection, Undertaker fights out of a hammerlock with an arm drag and uses his shoulder as a battering ram. Lesnar cuts him off with another knee and a club to the back. Brock Lesnar connects with shoulder thrusts in the corner and sends Undertaker across the ring. Taker gets his boot up and knocks Lesnar down with a jumping clothesline. Undertaker covers but only gets 2, so he goes for the Old School and hits it. Brock Lesnar is sent into the turnbuckles, Paul Heyman gets on the apron so Undertaker knocks him to the floor with a Big Boot.

Brock Lesnar forces Taker into the corner with a running shoulder thrust and hits another for good measure. Lesnar unsurprisingly holds Undertaker up for a delay on the vertical suplex and covers for 2. Undertaker starts favouring his midsection, so Brock zones in on it with boots and right hands. Lesnar drags Undertaker’s ribs into the ring post and covers for 2. Brock Lesnar goes back to the shoulder thrusts in the corner but Undertaker fights back with a series of right hands. A Big Boot knocks Lesnar back into the ropes but he reverses the irish whip and catches the challenger with a powerslam for 2. Undertaker isn’t getting a chance to catch his breath as Lesnar lays in more boots to the ribs and works a bearhug. Undertaker tries to counter with an arm drag but Lesnar keeps the hold on, Undertaker has to fight his way out of it on the mat and gets to his feet with right hands, Brock Lesnar gets another knee to the midsection to put a stop to that and a waistlock takedown puts Taker back in the bearhug.

Undertaker is rolled into a pin forcing him to exert energy by kicking out, he gets to his feet but Lesnar easily takes him back down. Undertaker scrambles back to his feet again and sends Lesnar through the ropes, breaking the hold. Lesnar gets back in, Undertaker ducks a right hand, connecting with bodyshots before knocking Lesnar back to the floor with a right hand. Undertaker catches his breath before following, Brock catches him with a kick to the midsection but gets a right hand for his troubles and is sent into the security wall. Paul Heyman has the referee away from the action and distracted as Lesnar hits Undertaker with the WWE Championship. He breaks the referee’s count before returning to Undertaker who is busted open. Lesnar targets the cut and rolls Undertaker in the ring, he covers but only gets 2.

Brock Lesnar gets some more shots in on the mat, a boot knocks Undertaker back into the ropes and Lesnar rips at the wound. Undertaker fights back with right hands out of the corner, knocking Brock all the way across the ring before sending him back. Undertaker squashes Brock in the corner with a clothesline, then another one across the ring before calling for the Chokeslam. Brock Lesnar fights it off with elbows but runs into the Big Boot for 2. Undertaker hits Lesnar with the Snake Eyes and a running boot for another close 2. Undertaker connects with shots on the mat, he sends Lesnar’s head into the top turnbuckle, Lesnar tries to reverse an irish whip but is sent into the referee! Undertaker hits the Chokeslam and covers for a visual pin. Matt Hardy runs down to the ring for reasons I can’t quite figure out, but he’s met with a right hand and Last Ride from Undertaker to be sent packing quickly. Brock hits a standing Spinebuster as the referee is waking up and covers 1, 2, NO!

Paul Heyman did a great job selling disbelief, Lesnar sends Undertaker off the ropes but ducks early and Taker hits the DDT! He’s slow to cover and only gets 2, he calls for the Tombstone but Lesnar scrambles out of it and we get a second referee bump. Brock Lesnar runs through Undertaker with a clothesline. Paul Heyman throws a chair to Lesnar, but Brock runs into a boot before he can use it. Undertaker bends the chair over Lesnar’s head before sending him out of the ring with another chairshot. Heyman gets knocked into the crowd before we see that the chair cut Lesnar’s forehead for what Cole says is the first time. Undertaker sends Brock off the ropes into the Big Boot and hits the Leg Drop but it only gets 2! (a Fuck You to Hulk Hogan possibly?) Brock Lesnar backdrops out of the Last Ride, Undertaker lands on his feet on the F-5 attempt but is forced into the corner.

Brock Lesnar connects with shoulder thrusts as Taker beats down on his back. The refereetries to split them up and is caught in the crosshairs, Brock Lesnar not-so-kindly tells him to stay out of the way and he takes Undertaker down to continue the brawl. The referee throws the match out.

DOUBLE DISQUALIFICATION (Brock Lesnar Retains)

This was a solid main event. Paul Heyman was useful without being a distraction, Undertaker made Brock seem like his equal in his rookie year and although 10% of the match was spent in a bearhug they were able to keep my attention throughout. I’m never a fan of non-finishes but it made sense here and built to the next month. [***¾] 7.25/10

After the match, Undertaker throws Brock to the outside, but he’s back in for more. This time Undertaker is ceremoniously dumped. Undertaker does a U-Turn and hits the Chokeslam on Lesnar. Paul Heyman tells Lesnar they should leave but Undertaker meets Brock on the aisle for more right hands. Lesnar is backed to the entranceway and thrown through the Unforgiven staging to send the fans home happy.
