 Tony Schiavone, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and Mike Tenay are on commentary for this match. The entrants are Scott Hall, The Giant, Curt Hennig, Scott Norton, Kevin Nash, Lex Luger, Sting, Konnan, and Goldberg. You can be pinned or thrown over the top rope to the floor to be eliminated.

Scott Hall has a microphone, he asks who’s here for the nWo and gets a pop, but no one’s here for the Wolfpac. He ignores the pop for Goldberg. Kevin Nash, Konnan, Lex Luger & Sting are representing the nWo Wolfpac, Giant, Norton Hennig and Scott Hall are nWo's representatives and Goldberg is here solo, he’s announced at 129-0.

 

NWO Invitational Battle Royal

WCW Road Wild 198 (8^th August 1998)

  The members of nWo Hollywood and Wolfpac pair off as Goldberg watches, avoiding the action as he makes his way to The Giant.

  Goldberg connects with right hands to back Giant up and we see Kevin Nash with his corner back elbow to Hall. Nash chokes Hall with his boot as Sting and Lex Luger team up on Hennig in the corner. Goldberg gets kicked by Kevin Nash but counters an Outsider’s Edge to eliminate Scott Hall. Kevin Nash eliminates himself to go after Hall, back in the ring Curt Hennig is sent into the corner and stumbles out into a Spear. Scott Norton beats on Konnan in the corner as they stay away from the star power. The Giant has Luger down, Sting jumps on Giant’s back but is squashed in the corner. Goldberg goes after Giant again but is backed across the ring. The Giant maintains control and hits a Russian legsweep as Curt Hennig goes to town on Sting with right hands. There’s mass brawling which is hard to follow as Norton tries to force Luger over the top rope. Konnan keeps The Giant in the corner momentarily with right hands.

  Sting tries to put Curt Hennig in the Scorpion Deathlock but turns into a right hand from Norton. Goldberg is throwing out Spears and they mean as much as a headlock in this match, he does eliminate Konnan though. Goldberg fights off an elimination attempt from Hennig but is backed into the corner by The Giant. Giant chops and kicks Goldberg. Lex Luger is stomping on Norton in the corner, Sting comes over to help as Hennig connects with chops to Goldberg. The Giant hits a back suplex on Goldberg as everyone asks why he didn’t try to eliminate the favourite in the match. Lex Luger makes a comeback against Henning but Scott Norton cuts it off. Curt Hennig eats a Spear before being eliminated. Goldberg clotheslines Scott Norton and Sting over to the floor. Goldberg hits a Spear on Luger and The Giant throws him over to the floor, Goldberg turns around into a goozle from The Giant who hits a Chokeslam.

  GOLDBERG SHAKES IT OFF! Goldberg Spears The Giant and calls for the Jackhammer before hitting it for the win.

WINNER: GOLDBERG

This match was just to get Goldberg over, and it was different to another one sided 3-minute match and the Sturgis crowd was a great no pressure place to do it. It was an average battle royal with Goldberg hitting his Spear/Jackhammer combination on The Giant at the end. [**] 3.5/10
