MR PERFECT (C) VS. TEXAS TORNADO

Sean Mooney is backstage with Mr Perfect and Bobby Heenan. Perfect is defending his championship on 10 days’ notice, knows nothing about Texas Tornado but he’s still confident for the match. Heenan says if you’ve seen one Texas Tornado, you’ve seen them all and they can be seen from a mile away. Perfect says that no one beats him, Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake might have something to say about that. Heenan says Tornado has his head in the clouds. Mr Perfect makes his way to the ring with Bobby “The Brain” Heenan.

Texas Tornado is elsewhere backstage with Gene Okerlund, he responds to the Clouds comments by saying he’ll return to the Clouds with the WWF Intercontinental Championship. The Fink introduces the champion as we let that one hang for a while. Texas Tornado makes his way out to the ring and McMahon is already killing the wind and tornado puns.

Vince McMahon and Roddy Piper are on commentary for this match. Howard Finkel is our ring announcer

The bell rings and the fans chant “Weasel” at Heenan. They circle and lock up, Texas Tornado shoves Perfect into the corner and Curt Hennig needs to talk to Heenan momentarily.
Mr. Perfect takes Tornado down with an arm drag, Texas Tornado takes some time before locking up again and takes a hip toss. Mr Perfect backs Texas Tornado into the corner and connects with a chop, but Kerry Von Erich reverses an irish whip and knocks Perfect down with a clothesline. Texas Tornado slams Mr. Perfect and there’s a miscommunication as Perfect’s sent over to the floor. Piper says that the only advice Perfect needs to hear is to cover up and run away, but he gets back in the ring instead. Texas Tornado takes control with a wristlock, striking Perfect’s shoulder. Mr Perfect breaks the hold with a right hand of his own. Texas Tornado is knocked into the ropes with a chop. Mr Perfect snapmares Tornado down and hits the neck snap. That always looked so fluid. Texas Tornado is sent into the corner, he stumbles out into a sleeper hold and Perfect wears him down. Mr Perfect connects with right hands in the corner. Mr Perfect slaps Texas Tornado and trash-talks him in the corner, but it fires him up.
Texas Tornado trips Mr Perfect and catapults him over the turnbuckle into the ring post, The Iron Claw is locked in to wear Perfect down for the Tornado Punch! 1,2,3!

WINNER: TEXAS TORNADO (NEW WWF Intercontinental Champion)

This was a fun sprint. It’s unfortunate that the worst move in wrestling history set up a great finish and the sloppy spot with Perfect going over to the floor was there, but it was still a fun match that the crowd loved. [***½] 8/10

After the match, Mr Perfect and Bobby Heenan demand a rematch for the Championship.
