The Kid is a young X-Pac, going through a number of names as an enhancement talent for WWF at the time. He was gaining some traction with the fans and yesterday was the 30th anniversary of one of the biggest moments of his career.
Before the match, Shawn Michaels is in the ring with Vince
McMahon. Vince asks what provoked Mr. Perfect to attack Shawn last week outside
the building. Michaels says he is a man of his word that he would become the
WWF Intercontinental Champion, and he did. Which doesn’t really answer the
question. He eventually brings it back to Mr. Perfect saying he’s better than
perfect and still the champion. He says he’ll defend at any time against
anybody. Someone climbs into the ring and it’s Marty Jannetty! He challenges
Shawn to a title match in tonight’s main event. Shawn says that Marty isn’t
ready to wrestle, and Jannetty says he’ll just go get his stuff. The match is made
official as we go to a commercial break.
We return with Razor
Ramon entering the ring, The Kid made his way out during commercials because we
only have so much time.
Vince McMahon, “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Bobby “The Brain”
Heenan are on commentary for this match. Howard Finkel is our ring announcer.
RAZOR RAMON VS.
THE KID
WWF Raw (17th
May 1993)
Razor Ramon takes his time before throwing
his toothpick at The Kid. They lock up and Ramon shoves Kid down immediately.
They lock up again and The Kid is forced back into the corner for an overhand
chop and a knifedge then tossed across the ring. McMahon hypes the main event
because it would have been 3 minutes since the television audience saw it and
Razor Ramon puts Kid in an abdominal stretch, taking away a point of balance by
lifting Kid’s leg in the hold. Ramon pulls kid’s hair and the referee forces
him to break. Guess that means he won’t be the first person to win with the
move since 1974. The Kid is sent off the ropes, he ducks a clothesline but his
crossbody attempt is caught into a fallaway slam by Ramon. Razor Ramon has some
fun at The Kid’s expense before sending him across the ring into the turnbuckles.
The Kid avoids the charge and Razor his the corner. The Kid climbs to the top
rope and hits a moonsault on a standing Razor Ramon, 1, 2, 3!
WINNER: THE KID
This was a great upset of a match and one of the first “big moments” on Raw. It wasn’t much for a match and The Kid won with his first offensive move, and it boosted his career. [N/A] 2/10
