ROUGEAU BROTHERS VS. BUSHWACKERS

 Before the match, we go to an interview with Lord Alfred Hayes at the WrestleMania brunch earlier in the day. He’s with the Bushwackers, who you can’t understand talking through huge bites of food and it’s great. The Rougeaus are out first with Jimmy Hart and their tiny flags. The crowd goes insane for the Bushwackers as they march to the ring. The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers bail to the floor and the Bushwackers steal his jacket now that he’s isolated. Jesse Ventura’s justified heel work on commentary is amazing.  Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse “The Body” Ventura are on commentary for this match. Howard Finkel is our ring announcer.

 

THE FABULOUS ROUGEAUS VS. THE BUSHWACKERS

WrestleMania 5 (2^nd April 1989)

  I think I heard the bell ring as The Rougeaus entered the ring and paired off with the Bushwackers so I’ll start it here. Both Bushwackers reverse irish whips as Jimmy Hart walks into the middle and is sandwiched by his clients.

  The heels regroup on the floor and it’s decided that Raymond Rougeau will start with Luke. Jacque offers a handshake, Luke asks the crowd what they think and gets kicked in the midsection. Jacque Rougeau connects with right hands, Luke is sent off the ropes and Rougeau leapfrogs. He drops to the mat on the return journey, Luke attempts a fist drop and misses. Jacque Rougeau is proud of himself but doesn’t notice Butch entering the match until he’s jumped from behind. The Bushwackers hit the Battering Ram and Bushwacker Luke covers but Ray brings Jacque out of the ring. Raymond Rougeau makes the tag and knocks Luke down. Bushwacker Butch tries to help his partner but the magic force is keeping him on the apron to distract the referee whilst The Rougeaus double-team Bushwacker Luke.

  Raymond Rougeau has Luke in a boston crab and Jacques stomps on him. Another tag to Raymond and he sends Butch into the corner before going to the middle rope to knock Luke down with an ax handle. Ray is back in, he whips Luke across the ring into the ropes and Luke runs into a back elbow. Butch is knocked off the apron. If any of those names are confused it’s because Ventura and Gorilla argued about which Bushwacker was which for a while and I had to double-check. Raymond gets the tag and the Rougeaus hit a double back elbow, he keeps Luke on the mat with an armbar before making another tag. Luke is sent off the ropes into a double chop and Jacques Rougeau puts Luke in an abdominal stretch before tagging back out. Jacques Rougeau showboats before kicking Luke in the chest.

  Bushwacker Butch has had enough. He brings Luke over to the corner and uses Bushwacker Luke’s head again for another Battering Ram. Luke covers and Raymond Rougeau can’t break up the cover quick enough.

WINNERS: THE BUSHWACKERS

This was a serviceable match, The Rougeaus had it and the Bushwackers only had to hit the same move twice but were crazily over with the kids in the crowd. It wasn't a show stealer but fans got the result they wanted. [*1/2] 3.75/10
