BOBBY LASHLEY (C) VS. TEST

The video package shows Test’s dominant ECW run and it kind of makes me wish he got a short run for the title. I know they were building Lashley for the Battle of the Billionaires (here) but building 2 hosses at once shouldn’t be difficult. Test standing over Lashley to end the video did kind of telegraph the result. Test makes his way out first, and he went by “The Impact Player” during this run. That was a nice throwback.  Tazz is trying to recycle his old Brock Lesnar call for Lashley’s entrance, which also copies Lesnar.

Tazz and Joey Styles are on commentary for this match.

WWE Royal Rumble 2007 (28th January 2007)

They lock up and walk around the ring in a stalemate. Test backs Lashley into the corner and slaps him but is taken down with a spear.

Bobby Lashley takes control on the mat at Test scrambles to the bottom rope. Lashley is sent into the middle rope, Test lays in the boots and chokes Lashley on the rope using the 5 count. Test hits back elbows in the corner and goes back to choking, this time using his boot. Bobby Lashley reverses an irish whip, sending Test into the corner, but runs into a back elbow. Test runs into a T-Bone suplex which impresses Tazz on commentary and we see a replay as Lashley sets up the delayed vertical suplex. Test rolls out to the floor and Lashley brings him back in at 3. Test cuts off Lashley with a shoulder barge through the ropes and sends Bobby Lashley into the ring post. Test brings Bobby Lashley back into the ring for a nearfall. Test puts an armbar on Lashley to keep him on the mat and cranks back on the neck. Bobby Lashley slowly fights to his feet and escapes the armbar with forearms but runs into a big boot in the corner. Test hits an armbreaker for another nearfall and goes back to the armbar, he drives his knee into Lashley’s shoulder but Bobby makes it back up again. More forearm strikes from Lashley break the hold and he shoves Test into the corner. Test catches Lashley with a back elbow but runs into a back body drop. Bobby Lashley hits a clothesline and shoulder thrusts with his good arm but he can’t lift Test in the military press. The referee checks on Bobby Lashley and Test hits him with the running Big Boot. He covers but Lashley kicks out before 3, Test isn’t pleased and wastes time showing it. Test has Lashley up for a TKO.

Bobby Lashley lands on his feet and hitting a belly to belly suplex followed by a clothesline. Test rolls out of the ring and decides to stay there for the count out.

WINNER: BOBBY LASHLEY (STILL ECW Champion)

This was a slow match, the arm work was good from Test but there wasn’t much more to it and the strange finish didn’t help. Perfectly skippable match [*¾] 3/10

After the match, Bobby Lashley chases Test up the ramp and knocks him down with another clothesline. Lashley brings Test back to the ring and goes to work in the corner. Test is sent across the ring and Bobby Lashley lifts him onto the good shoulder for a running Powerslam.
