Before the match, Todd Grisham asks Randy Orton for his thoughts on his opponents in tonight’s main event. Randy Orton stays silent, for a long time before saying no and leaving Todd stood on his, well, his Todd.
A graphic shows the teams for this match, The Hart Dynasty will defend their championships against The Usos, Santino Marella & Vladimir Kozlov, Mark Henry& Evan Bourne and Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre. Tony Chimel goes through the rules. Essentially a winner-stays-on series of tag team matches. The Hart Dynasty make their way out first with Natalya. They’re followed by The Usos. Who after 12 years, I still can’t tell apart. They’re accompanied by Tamina.
Michael Cole, Jerry “The King”Lawler and Matt Striker are on
commentary for this match.
TAG TEAM TURMOIL
(WWE Tag Team Championships)
WWE Night of Champions 2010 (19th September 2010)
The bell rings and Striker goes through the
family ties to the industry in this match. The Uso refuses to lock up and kicks
Kidd in the midsection, Tyson Kidd is backed into the ropes and sent across the
ring but he is able to take Uso down with an armdrag. Tyson Kidd rolls Uso up
for 2 with a wheelbarrow victory roll. He connects with a kick but runs into
the arms of one of the Usos. According to Michael Cole, Jey usually is the one
wearing shorts, but tonight they both are. They switch anyway, making the tag
for a Demolition Decapitator on Kidd. Lawler tells us it’s Jimmy Uso in the ring as
he covers for 2. Tyson Kidd is stomped in the corner, Jimmy makes some space
but eats shit on the charge, hitting the middle turnbuckle. DH Smith tags into
the match and knocks Jimmy down with a shoulder tackle before a big boot knocks
Jey Uso from the apron. Smith knocks Jey down with clotheslines but ducks too
early and gets kicked in the face. Jimmy Uso runs into a belly-to-belly suplex
and Jey pulls him out of the ring before the Sharpshooter is locked in. DH
Smith tags out and Tyson Kidd hits a springboard moonsault from the top rope to
the floor!
Tyson Kidd rolls Jimmy into the ring and
covers, getting a close 2 count. I fucking hate when Cole says “he got him, no!”
it doesn’t sound right not being Vince. Tyson Kidd tries to put the
Sharpshooter on Jimmy, Jey gets in the ring, drawing in DH Smith, but the
referee misses this because Tamina is trying to slide in the ring and
making a nuisance of herself. Jey Uso low-bridges Smith, sending him to the
floor before Superkicking Tyson Kidd. Jimmy covers and the champions are the
first team eliminated.
Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov sprint
down to the ring as The Usos try and catch their breath for a second or two. Santino Marella starts, jabbing Jimmy and knocking him down with a forearm shot. He
does the splits to duck Jimmy’s clothesline and sends him over with a hip toss.
Santino hits the ropes, saluting headbutt! He covers but Jey makes the save. Vladimir Kozlov charges Jey Uso out of the ring and Santino sets up the Cobra, with
Tamina copying him on the apron. Santino walks into a Samoan drop by Jimmy
because he was distracted and Santino & Kozlov go back to the showers. Mark
Henry’s music gets a surprising pop as they make their way to the ring. Evan Bourne
jumps in the ring to start, kicking Jimmy Uso in the hamstrings. Bourne knocks
Uso down with a spinning heel kick. Jimmy stops the momentum dead with a back
elbow and sends Evan Bourne into the corner. Evan Bourne avoids a running
splash but realises he’s on the wrong side of the ring. He rolls under a
clothesline and brings in Mark Henry. Henry knocks Jimmy down with
clotheslines and a right hand. Mark headbutts Jimmy as Jey starts reaching for
Mark Henry from the apron, Henry shoves Jey down to the floor and catches Jimmy
in the World’s Strongest Slam. He drags Jimmy over to his own corner with ease
and makes the tag to Bourne, who hits the AirBourne (shooting star press) for
the win.
Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre are the only
team left, so naturally they saunter to the ring. Drew McIntyre checks
some leg kicks and clubs Bourne down before tossing him into the corner. Drew
utilizes the 5-count, raining down punches and stomps on Bourne before giving
slight reprieval. Another stomp softens Bourne up so Cody can get the tag. Drew
holds Evan’s arm so Cody Rhodes can connect with a kick. He punches Bourne from
above and hits a suplex before tagging back out. Bourne is in another armbar,
this time from Cody as Drew McIntyre kicks at the shoulder. Drew goes for a
chat to Mark Henry and drags Evan Bourne to his feet. Evan is knocked back with
a European uppercut, but fights back with a back elbow. Evan Bourne kicks at
McIntyre’s leg but loses his ballance, making him an easy target for the
clothesline. McIntyre covers but only gets 2, he puts Bourne back in an armbar
on the mat, grinding at Bourne’s face with a forearm. Evan Bourne counters the
hold with an armdrag and tries to crawl towards Mark Henry. Drew is the first
to make a tag though, and Cody runs into Mark Henry on the apron, bringing him
in the ring and making me laugh harder than it should. He drags Evan Bourne
across the ring so Drew can get an awkward looking cheap shot. Evan sells it
like Drew caught him low, but it isn’t referenced. Cody covers but only gets 2.
Cody Rhodes uses the bottom or middle rope to get more height on a stomp. I’d
know which one but Kevin Dunn decided we need to see Mark Henry’s concern for
his tag partner. Fuck that guy.
Drew McIntyre is back in, he stomps on Bourne
and lifts him into a gutbuster, it takes a bit longer than it took you to read
it though, he’s stalling toying with Evan Bourne.he puts Bourne in a chinlock,
but Bourne fights to his feet. He targets McIntyre’s midsection with punches as
the crowd gets behind him. Evan Bourne breaks free with a leg kick but runs
into a shoulder block, and he’s right near Cody as the Grandson of a Plumber
makes the tag.Bourne is knocked down with a right hand on the floor, Cody
stomps Bourne before sending him back in the ring and tagging back out. Drew
McIntyre wrenches back with a chinlock, sitting on Bourne’s back until Bourne
starts to work to his feet. He breaks the hold, McIntyre lifts him for a suplex
but Evan Bourne is able to strike McIntyre’s head with his knee and land on his
feet. Evan Bourne connects with a jumping knee to Drew McIntyre quicker than I
can even think of moving from my sofa.
They both make the tag, Cody meets Mark Henry on the face side of the ring, but goes down before Henry can connect, I don’t blame him to be honest. Henry connects with his next shot, the third one sends Cody pretty much where he started his charge. Mark Henry headbutts Cody down and takes a shot at McIntyre too. Cody tries to attack Henry from behind but it’s shaken off. Mark Henry sends Rhodes into the corner, he hits a shoulder thrust in the corner and the running splash that always supposedly shakes the ring. Shouldn’t they reinforce it then? Mark Henry lifts Cody overhead before dropping him all the way back to the mat. He calls for a Shooting Star Press but tags in Evan, so I think he might be doing it instead. Evan Bourne stands on Mark Henry’s shoulders, but it’s not much higher than the rope, so I don’t see the point. Drew McIntyre seems to agree with me, attacking Mark Henry as Bourne jumps to safety. Evan Bourne kicks Drew McIntyre, knocking him down but turns around into the CrossRhodes, Cody covers and wins the belts with his third partner.
WINNER: CODY RHODES & DREW MCINTYRE
Tag team turmoils can be hard to rate, this one started
well with a rematch from last month (here) but they couldn’t get out of 2nd
gear, having the champions leave first didn’t hurt too much as Usos are a
consistent team, even at this point. Santino and Kozlov was a waste of a spot,
but it was some short comedy to break it up, so whatever. Then Mark Henry
showed up and they couldn’t change gears to match his size at that point in the
match, leaving them vulnerable. Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre worked really
well together for a recently-formed team and made this a consistent turmoil
match. ** ½] 4.5/10
After the match, a vignette plays for Alberto del Rio, who is
making his way to the company.
