KEVIN SULLIVAN VS. CACTUS JACK

According to Mick Foley in his first book, he only made it to the arena 15 minutes before the first match started on this night. He and Sullivan went on second. Cactus Jack makes his way out first, getting more of a babyface reaction than some may have wanted. Kevin Sullivan makes his way out, along with Dave Sullivan, Hulk Hogan’s #1 fan.

Bobby “The Brain” Heenan and Tony Schiovane are on commentary for this match.

KEVIN SULLIVAN VS. CACTUS JACK

Loser Leaves WCW)

WCW Fall Brawl 1994 (18th September 1994)

Cactus Jack meets Sullivan on the floor with right hands and is sent into the guard rail, flipping over to the front row. They exchange right hands and Sullivan is sent back to ringside. Kevin Sullivan knocks Jack down with a right hand and bounces his head off the guard rail before taking it inside the ring. I don’t remember hearing a bell but it doesn’t go, so I missed it. Cactus Jack sends Sullivan’s head into the top turnbuckle, he blocks the referee’s vision for a terrible mule kick attempt and Sullivan ignores it, but he can’t ignore the back elbow. Cactus Jack knocks Sullivan through the ropes with a right hand as Schiovane asks if Dave could get involved. Kevin Sullivan is sent into the ring post before Cactus Jack starts ripping up the protective mats. Yeah, fuck those protective mats! What are they even for(!)?

I’m not sure who seems more stupid next, Dave Sullivan for moving so Cactus can remove the mats, and not trying to make it difficult, or Kevin for crawling over to the concrete. Cactus Jack climbs to the middle rope. Dave Sullivan grabs his ankle, stopping him from taking flight as Kevin gets to his feet and climbs onto the apron. He sends Cactus Jack down onto the concrete! Kevin Sullivan grazes Cactus Jack with a knee drop from the apron and slams him on the concrete. Sullivan body-checks Cactus back down as he amazingly gets to his feet, but this time he thankfully lands on the mats. Cactus’ head is sent into the apron as they get back into the ring. Schiovane has been talking about Cactus Jack’s recently removed ear and Sullivan must hear him, focusing on the remains until Cactus Jack fights back with boots out of the corner. The fans rally behind Cactus Jack as he bites on Sullivan’s forehead and sends him off the ropes into a back elbow. Cactus Jack hits the elbow drop for a nearfall.

Kevin Sullivan is sent back out to ringside, Cactus Jack signals for the Piledriver but Sullivan backdrops out of it and Cactus Jack lands on the concrete. A running clothesline knocks Cactus Jack back down to the concrete as Kevin Sullivan gets back in the ring. He boots at Cactus Jack through the ropes, hitting the ear again, but Cactus probably can’t feel much after his head bounced off the concrete. Cactus Jack throws a chair in the ring and sneaks in as Sullivan tries to grab it, the referee takes it away though. Cactus Jack reverses an irish whip sending Sullivan into the corner but runs into his boot. Cactus Jack is sent to the floor, he picks up the chair, but Dave Sullivan stops him from using it. Kevin gets a free shot in on Cactus’ jaw and sends him into the ring steps. Kevin Sullivan sends Cactus Jack back into the ring before grabbing a chair from the front row.

Kevin Sullivan brings the chair into the ring but Dave stops him from getting disqualified. Cactus Jack charges, Kevin ducks and Dave Sullivan is knocked from the apron. Kevin Sullivan rolls Cactus Jack up, they botch it and the camera misses it, but it’s in the record books. Cactus Jack is gone from WCW!

WINNER: KEVIN SULLIVAN

This was a decent brawl, and for it to be done on the fly adds an extra level to it, but it did get repetitive going to the outside every couple of minutes. Dave Sullivan added enough to the match without becoming a burden and this lead to his match with Kevin the next month. Again, a decent match but both guys can and have done better, Cactus Jack took some crazy bumps, hitting concrete more times than any man should agree to. [**¼] 4.25/10
