Before the match, Harlem Heat are backstage in the WCW online area with Colonel Robert Parker and Sister Sherri. Tony Schiavone sends us to Gene Okerlund who has a special report on the attack on WCW by the New World Order. It goes from Scott Hall’s first appearance, getting slapped by Sting and bringing in Kevin Nash. (Although unfortunately it cuts out the “look at the adjective” line. Eric Bischoff is shown being Jacknifed from the stage and Hulk Hogan becoming the third man. Hogan won the WCW Championship and spray painted it for the nWo before Ted DiBiase and The Giant were shown to have joined their ranks. This forced the WCW roster to align with the Four Horsemen to take on the new threat. We then cap it off with “Sting” turning on Lex Luger, attacking him in the parking lot.
Scott Norton makes his way out first. My WWE Network isn’t
interested in Ice Train making his way out with Teddy Long though, so I skip
that.
“The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, Tony Schiavone and
Bobby “The Brain” Heenan are on commentary for this match.
ICE TRAIN VS.
SCOTT NORTON
(Submission)
WCW Fall Brawl 1996 (15th September 1996)
They lock up, Ice Train starts off
with an arm wringer, he takes Norton down but can’t keep him on the mat as
Brain says Norton’s not giving up first, he’s healthier than Ice Train.
Scott Norton elbows out of a hammerlock, he grabs a headlock but is sent off the ropes knocking Ice Train down with a shoulder tackle. Scott Norton goes for a jog, Ice Train goes prone then leapfrogs before Norton hits the mat off a hip toss, then again from the clothesline. Ice Train hits a jumping splash and a front slam on Norton, Teddy Long says “not yet” and the momentary distraction gives Norton the chance to avoid another splash. Norton plants him with a DDT and hits a back suplex, Ice Train would have landed on his neck, but luckily his traps are bigger than my thighs. Ice Train goes down with a short-arm clothesline as Heenan recommends going for Ice Train’s injured shoulder. Norton chops Ice Train and knocks him down with a right hand. He has some words for Long before trying to send Ice Train off the ropes, the irish whip is reversed and Ice Train hits a powerslam. Ice Train stands over Norton in a chinlock and commentary go insane for the submission move.
That’s what we’re working with here. Norton is able to move to a seated position but Ice Train lets go and drops an elbow onto Norton before suplexing him. Tony Schiavone goes over their history as a tag team, which only lasted 5 months, but he acts like it’s the Road Warriors splitting up. It’s also come full circle because the team formed due to a series of matches between the two that ended in a draw. Oh fuck, is this going to be a draw too? Anyway, Scott Norton is sent into the corner and Ice Train hits the running splash. Ice Train sends Norton back the other way but Scott rebounds with a clothesline. Scott Norton puts on the armbar, which Sgt. Craig Pittman calls the Code Red, apparently. He is also managed by Long. Tony completely kills the move, saying Norton is just holding the arm, not cranking like Pittman does as Teddy Long stands with the towel. He gets on the apron but the referee tells him to get down as Bobby says the towel is for Long’s head to stay shiny.
Scott Norton hits an elbow drop to Ice Train’s elbow and follows it
with a neckbreaker. Scott Norton awkwardly approaches the corner, looking like
he wanted to do Bret Hart’s chest-first bump and stumbles out into a scoop slam
that almost clocks the referee. Ice Train takes Norton down in a Japanese
armbar, the referee has the microphone and asks Norton if he wants to quit but
he refuses. Ice Train clubs at the shoulder and sends Norton across the ring
into a clothesline. Ice Train hits a back senton but the jumping splash hits
knees. Ice Train reverses an irish whip but is caught in a standing
spinebuster. Scott Norton turns Ice Train over into a boston crab, he sits back
and wrenches on Ice Train, but he refuses to quit. Norton goes back to the arm
bar, but Teddy Long is back on the apron, causing a distraction to break the
hold. Scott Norton goes back to the shoulder, stepping over Ice Train to pull
his shoulder back. Teddy Long gets on the apron and Scott Norton’s had enough,
he drags Long into the ring and holds him in a choke until Ice Train hits him
in the kidneys with forearm shots.
Ice
Train puts Scott Norton in the Full Nelson, he pulls Norton around and takes
him down to the mat until Scott Norton submits.
