Before the match, Jason Sensation does some impressions. D’Lo Brown makes his way out first, he recently lost the European title so is introduced as the “former champion who now resides back in Chicago, Illinois” by The Fink. We see X-Pac taking the championship from D’Lo before Gangrel makes his way out. I will never tire of Gangrel’s entrance. He recently debuted and JR puts over his lifting DDT finisher.
Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on
commentary for this match.
GANGREL VS. D’LO
BROWN
WWF Breakdown: In Your House (27th September 1998)
D’Lo Brown gets us started with right hands and sends Gangrel
off the ropes, but takes a spinning back elbow to the jaw.
Gangrel starts with right hands and overhand chops but is cut off with an eye poke. D’Lo returns the right hands again. He whipss Gangrel across the ring, Gangrel blocks a hip toss and suplexes D’Lo overhead. Gangrel hits the ropes for elbow drops, but D’Lo still has the chest protector on. JR isn’t sure how much D’Lo needs it now, but King says it’s legit. D’Lo Brown’s head meets the turnbuckle, Gangrel is sent across the ring, he ducks a clothesline but not the calf kick. Gangrel is punched and taken over to the corner, D’Lo chokes him across the top rope, releasing before the count of 5. Gangrel tries to fight out of the corner, but gets knocked down as D’Lo talks to the crowd.D’Lo slams Gangrel but misses the elbow drop. D’Lo mule kicks Gangrel below the belt out of the referee’s vision. Gangrel is sent into the turnbuckles and gets planted with a running powerbomb.
D’Lo Brown covers and only gets 2. A legdrop gets another nearfall and we see the running powerbomb again. D’Lo Brown sends Gangrel into the corner, but nobody’s home when he follows. Gangrel kicks at D’Lo’s midsection, but again he has the chest protector so it’s not very effective. Gangrel tries to DDT D’Lo out of the corner but gets slammed down. JR also mistakenly calls Gangrel Edge due to their alliance. D’Lo Brown suplexes Gangrel and gets 2, which he ha a word with the ref about before backing Gangrel into the corner. Gangrel fights out of it with forearms and sends D’Lo across the ring into a clothesline. Gangrel sends D’Lo Brown off the ropes again but ducks early and gets kicked. Another nearfall for D’Lo with the jackknife cover and headbutts Gangrel in the midsection. He tells the crowd he’s the real European Champion before perching Gangrel on the top turnbuckle.
Gangrel shoves D’Lo to the mat from the top rope and covers for 2. D’Lo is kicked and headbutted before Gangrel sends him off the ropes. D’Lo ducks a clothesline and hits one of his own. He lifts Gangrel as if to put him in a Torture Rack, but slams him down to the mat and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. Gangrel isn’t laying down for it though, he kicks out at 2. D'Lo tells the referee to count faster. He covers again and still gets 2 so he puts Gangrel in a chinlock as King notices a Hulkamania sign in the crowd. Gangrel reverses an irish whip and they miss the top rope for the Stun Gun, which looked pretty scary. Mark Henry makes his way out to the ring as D’Lo is sent overhead with a back body drop. Gangrel hits what looks like it should have been a clothesline, but ended up as a body press from the top rope and covers but only gets a 2 count. D’Lo Brown reverses an irish whip, and Mark Henry pulls down the top rope, sending Gangrel over to the floor.
Mark Henry picks up Gangrel and rams him into the ring post before rolling him in the ring. All the time, D’Lo has the referee’s attention. D’Lo hits the Lo Down for the win.
WINNER: MARK HENRY
This was a decent basic match, Gangrel was protected
having Mark Henry assist with the win, but it was nothing special. [**] 3/10
Gangrel rolls back in the ring before leaving ringside and
jabs Mark Henry in the eyes, he takes a celebrating D’Lo and hits the Impaler lifting
DDT to cheer up the crowd.
