This is the third consecutive one on one PPV match between these 2. They were also on opposing teams back at Backlash. The beginning of the "2003-2004 season" was not fun forr Raw’s main event. Not for a while. WWE knew they needed something else for this one (Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair weren’t enough to save it) and brought in not only the Hell in a Cell, but also Mick Foley as the Special Guest referee.
Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on commentary for
this match.
Before the match, Eric Bischoff makes his way down for the
final Redneck Triathlon event. He says it’s time to wrap it up and I
agree, he says he’s going to sing his theme tune, which makes sense. He lip-syncs it in the most obvious way, before Steve Austin stops him from backstage
it, calling him Lilli Vanilli and popping the crowd. They play the instrumental
and Bischoff sings terribly. Austin says he can’t sing either so he decides to
spin the wheel again, it lands on pig pen fun (completely legitimately, shut up)
which begins a Hog Pen match The first man in the pig pen near the stage loses. He
also gives the crowd permission to keep Bischoff in the arena and he’s on his
way. Bischoff removes the permission but can’t find an opening until he sees a fairly old man, who throws
him back to ringside. Steve Austin knocks Bischoff down and throws him in the
ring, Bischoff’s head meets the turnbuckle and he stomps a mudhole in the
corner. He brings Bischoff to his feet and hits a Stunner in the middle of the
ring. Bishchoff is sent through the ropes and walked up the ramp. Austin knocks
Bischoff down again on the stage. Eric Bischoff is sent into the pig pen and
Austin wins 2-1 (1NC). There’s some questionable calls on commentary during the
segment. King saying Mae Young’s “pie” smells worse than pig crap, and JR
claiming Bischoff’s presence “deflowered” the piglets in the pen.
The Cell is lowered,
but instead of seeing that we get the video package, Triple H caused himself to
get disqualified at Judgement Day, Kevin Nash beat him down after the match and
sent him through the Raw announce table. The referees decided they didn’t want
the job at Backlash, which is what brought in Mick Foley officially. Triple H
brawled with Foley in the run-up to the match, drawing out Nash to hit a
Jacknife for a visual pin. The WWE Network doesn’t have it, but the song “Headstrong”
by Trapt is on the DVD release, which is a great song. Speaking of Nash, he’s
out here first. Triple H walks out next ensuring Foley gets all of our
gratitude as he enters. The Cell has been hanging five feet in the air for
these entrances, for some reason.

(World Heavyweight
Championship - Hell in a Cell)
WWE Bad Blood 2003 (15th June 2003)
The bell rings, and Triple H tells Foley to stay out of the way before kicking Nash in the midsection and connecting with right hands. Triple H hits the ropes and runs into Nash's boot before being sent to the floor. Triple H avoids the Cell before getting back in the ring, he meets Kevin Nash with a right hand but is knocked down with a forearm strike. Nash connects with a right hand and Triple H crawls to the apron, Nash brings Triple H to his feet and clubs at his chest, but is stunnered across the top rope.
Triple H goes to work with right hands in the corner but is shoved back into Foley, who thankfully gets up instead of pretending he’s made of marshmallows like referees. Triple H walks into another forearm shot. Nash hits him with back elbows and kicks to the midsection in the corner before sending Triple H off the ropes into a back elbow. Triple H is clotheslined over the top rope and he hits the Cell, he tries to send Kevin Nash into the Cell wall but it’s blocked, Kevin Nash drives Triple H into the ring post and sends him into the wall with irish whips. Triple H’s head meets the ring apron, he’s sent into the Cell wall again, stumbling back into a backdrop by Nash. Kevin Nash brings it back into the ring with right hands and back elbows in the corner, Triple H is sent into the turnbuckles and Nash hits the Sidewalk Slam for 2.
Kevin Nash hits some
jumping elbow drops and covers again, but it’s still a 2 count so he goes to
get a chair from under the ring. He sends the top of the chair into Triple H’s midsection and hits him across the back,
which sounded like a cannon. There’s a great commentary moment where JR is
pissed that he’s had to say “EIGHT TIMES” that there aren’t disqualifications
in the match. Triple H has crawled back to ringside, but Nash moves a cameraman
so he can send Triple H into the corner of the Cell. Triple H is sent into the
ring steps and the same guy is in the way again. Nash stalks Triple H around
ringside with the ring steps, launching them at the Champion, but Triple H
moves out of the way. Triple H starts making a comeback and sends Nash’s head
into the ring steps. Kevin Nash kicks Triple H in the midsection and tries to
lift him for the Jackknife, but Triple H uses the Cell to counter.
Triple H with more right hands before bringing
a toolbox from under the ring. Kevin Nash cuts him off before he can use the
metal lid but Triple H attacks the knee with a hammer, which Kevin Nash
famously had trouble with during this time. Triple H hits him with a shot to
the head with the hammer and gets back in the ring. Mick Foley takes the hammer
away from Triple H, which starts a shoving match. Foley plants Triple H and the
crowd is awake for the match. Triple H hits Nash with more right hands as he
gets back in the ring and we see Nash is bleeding from the hammer shot. Triple
H grinds Nash’s face against the Cell and he sends Nash into the base of the
ring steps. Kevin Nash is sent into the Cell wall before his forehead is rubbed
against the mesh again. Triple H rolls Nash in the ring and brings a
screwdriver with him as he follows suit.
Kevin Nash is able to
get his arms up, they fight over the screwdriver until Triple H kicks Nash in
the gut and drives the screwdriver into his forehead, with Jim Ross apologising
for the image. Triple H throws the weapon down and decided on a 2x4 wrapped in
barbed wire instead. He sends it into Nash’s midsection, Kevin Nash cuts off
the second shot and knocks Triple H down with right hands, he bounces the
barbed wire 2x4 off Triple H’s head, busting him open. Kevin Nash places the
barbed wire on the top turnbuckle, he targets Triple H’s cut with right hands
and sends him across the ring, squashing him with clotheslines in the corner. Kevin
Nash lifts Triple H on his shoulder and hits the Snake Eyes on the barbed wire!
Kevin Nash covers but Triple H still kicks out at 2. Nash brings the ring steps
into the ring and Triple H bails to the floor. He picks up a wooden crate and
smashes it over Kevin Nash’s head.
Triple H brings the sledgehammer into the ring, Mick Foley takes it from Triple H and (rightly) gets decked. Triple H decides on using the steel steps instead but Nash brings him down with a drop toehold sending Triple H’s face into the steps, Nash covers and Triple H kicks out at 2. Kevin Nash grabs the chair but Triple H kicks his leg to cut him off. Triple H hits Kevin Nash, then Mick Foley with the chair, Foley’s bleeding too! He brings out Mr. Socko and puts Triple H in the Mandible claw, Triple H holds on and kicks Foley in the balls. Kevin Nash has the ring steps, he hits both Triple H and Foley with the steps. Kevin Nash covers but Mick Foley can’t make the count. Foley gets to his feet on the apron as Nash goes to see what’s going on. Triple H hits Nash from behind, sending Foley into the Cell wall. Kevin Nash counters the Pedigree and catapults Triple H into the barbed wire. Nash with a knee to the gut to set up a Jackknife Powerbomb, he covers Triple H and Foley makes it back to the ring. Triple H kicks out at 2.9!
Both guys are down as we see Foley being sent into the Cell wall again, Triple H starts crawling towards his sledgehammer as Nash follows him, Kevin Nash brings Triple H to his feet but is caught with an uppercut with the sledgehammer setting up a Pedigree from Triple H for the win.
WINNER: TRIPLE H (STILL WWE World Heavyweight Champion)
This match was slow to start but had some decent moments, Foley didn’t have to bump but the crowd woke up as he did, the screwdriver I don’t remember seeing before this time (although I’m sure someone will tell me I’m wrong) and similar to yesterday’s review there’s an added respect for the barbed wire spots from both guys. It was the basic match you would expect, but it showed a decent enough story, Mick Foley’s involvement was just enough without taking from the match. [**] 3/10
After the match, Ric Flair and Randy Orton come out to help Triple H to the back.
