SANDMAN VS. THE ZOMBIE

 This was the first match of WWE’s ECW revival. Yeah, it was doomed from the start. Anyway, Tazz and Joey Styles are on commentary for this match.

Before the match Paul Heyman introduced Rob Van Dam, crowning him the first ECW Champion of this era, and that's probably the last time anybody wanted to associate that belt with ECW. Edge and Lita make their way out as guests of Heyman and Edge Spears RVD after building up their match at Vengeance. Edge escapes through the crowd but backs into John Cena, who also promised to be here tonight. That lead to a brawl between the RVD, Edge and Cena in which Edge escaped through the crowd. John Cena followed him, decking Heyman on the way out before the first EXTREME! Commercial break.

As we return Paul Heyman is backstage with Classic ECW alumni (Little Guido, Balls Mahoney, Stevie Richards) and he says ECW will invade Raw (again) the following Monday. Ominous music plays and it's time for our first match. The Zombie makes his way out as Tazz and Joey Styles are confused as hell on commentary, with Tazz asking if it’s a rib. He cuts a fucking promo because of course he does. Groaning into the microphone until Sandman’s music hits. Sandman makes his way through the crowd, busting himself open before he’s close to ground level. The referee is not happy with how long Sandman’s entrance is taking.

WWECW on Sci-Fi (13^th June 2006)

Sandman decks The Zombie with a Singapore cane shot and lays into The Zombie on the ground with more Singapore cane shots. Sandman hits the White Russian legsweep and covers for the easy win.

 It was a simple squash match, I actually like the idea of Sandman taking out random crappy gimmicks and think he could have made something of this. It almost felt like a terrible rip-off of ECW vs. The Network since they were on Sci-Fi but it failed miserably. At least Sandman got a paycheck for bleeding and caning the shit out of someone. DUD 1/10

After the match, Sandman beats The Zombie to the back using his Singapore cane before we see Kelly Kelly backstage, who promises to strip tonight because she’s an exhibitionist. Guess when your girlfriend is going to walk in to see how you’re doing during this show?
