LARRY ZBYSZKO VS. ERIC YOUNG

Before the match Eric Young is backstage with Jeremy Borash. JB tells Eric Young to have confidence going into his match and Larry Zbyszko enters the frame, telling Young  that confidence won’t be enough, he doesn’t have the skill or the ability to beat Zbyszko. Larry Zbyszko had been playing dictator as the authority figure, which brought Jim Cornette into the company. I remember really liking this storyline at the time. Larry caused Eric Young to lose a match, being pinned by Sharkboy, which also caused Eric Young to be fired. Cornette made this match between the two, with their respective jobs on the line. Larry walks out first, followed by Young who was scared of his pyro at this point. It wasn’t all great. Mike Tenay and Don West are on commentary for this match.

LARRY ZBYSZKO VS. ERIC YOUNG

(Loser is Fired)

TNA Bound for Glory 2006 (22nd October 2006)

A “don’t fire Eric” chant starts at the bell before Eric Young checks to see who the crowd is behind. They start a “fire Larry” chant and Zbyszko goes out to the apron, refusing to wrestle. He gets back in and after more stalling and crowd work they finally lock up, Larry Zbyszko backs Young into the ropes and kicks him in the midsection, Young is sent off the ropes into an abdominal stretch, he grabs the tights but Eric Young is able to counter into one of his own. Zbyszko elbows the referee down because the match really needed a ref bump, he pulls something from his trunks but is caught with a low blow by Eric Young, he picks up the foreign object and hits Zbyszko in the head, covering him for the win.

WINNER: ERIC YOUNG

It was a nothing match with a quick win for Eric Young. He was popular at the time and they really could have followed this up with a push. The moment meant more in the context of the story than it does in a vacuum. [*] 1/10
