DAVID FLAIR & CROWBAR VS. THE MAMALUKES

Earlier in the night, The Mamalukes and Disco Inferno are backstage with “Mean” Gene Okerlund. They won the WCW Tag Team Championships from David Flair & Crowbar on the previous Nitro. Tonight’s match is a non-title match, however. Disco Inferno says he shouldn’tbe facing them again, Flair and Crowbar should earn the title shot. Lenny Lane and Idol try out their new name, but the challenge isn’t accepted.

Mike Tenay, Scott Hudson and Tony Schiovane are on commentary for this match. We see Big Vito splash Crowbar through a table last week. David Flair& Crowbar walk down to the ring with Daffney.

DAVID FLAIR & CROWBAR VS. THE MAMALUKES

WCW Thunder (1st February 2000)

Stamboli starts with Crowbar, but he’s on the receiving end of right hands. Disco joins commentary and is asked where Tony Marinara (now Mamaluke is. Johnny Stamboli cuts off the arm wringer with a kick to the midsection and takes Crowbar to the corner for some shots to the midsection. Disco is complaining that they shouldn't have to face the same team all the time, Tenay challenges that he should have put the belts on the line. Crowbar is sent across the ring but floats over and hits Stamboli with a Northern Lights suplex for a nearfall as Miss Hancock starts making her way down to the ring. Daffney cuts her off at the top of the ramp. Crowbar gets a nearfall with a slingshot plancha into the ring, but Big Vito cuts him off with a knee from the outside. Stamboli lifts Crowbar overhead then drops him to the mat before tagging out. The Mamalukes send Crowbar off the ropes into a double-team ax handle, which just looked awkward to be honest. Big Vito stomps Crowbar and sends him into David Flair.

Crowbar takes the chance to tag and Flair screams in Vito’s face but gets socked in the mouth. He dances and gets knocked down with another right hand.Big Vito kicks David Flair down and hits a delayed vertical suplex, walking around the ring with Flair in the air. Vito slams Flair and climbs to the middle rope, he hits an elbow drop from over halfway across the ring. Big Vito covers but Crowbar makes the save, Disco Inferno calls for a DQ because it’s cheating when it’s not his team. Johnny Stamboli tags back in, they both send Flair off the ropes and transition from a double hip toss to a powerbomb. Stamboli knocks Crowbar off the apron and tags back out. Vito knocks David Flair down with a right hand, then bites down on his forehead. Big Vito slams Flair again but misses the elbow drop. Crowbar gets the hot tag, going on a frenzy with clotheslines and dropkicks. Flair and Crowbar send Vito off the ropes into a rough-looking back body drop and Stamboli is back on his feet. Crowbar ducks the clothesline but it hits David Flair, Stamboli misses a spinning heel kick on Crowbar and is dumped out of the ring. Big Vito hits an elevated DDT and covers but Disco Inferno and Daffney are both on the apron. David Flair hits Big Vito from behind with the gold-plated crowbar, the wrestler called Crowbar gets the pin.

WINNER: DAVID FLAIR & CROWBAR

There were some rough spots in the match, but Big Vito showed promise and I’m intrigued with Johnny Stamboli too. It wa short and didn’t feel too long, but I could have lived without it. [*] 1/10
