There is commentary for this match, staring down Hassan and Daivari on their way to the ring. It’s Hassan’s debut in the WWE. Jim Ross makes sure to tell us they don’t represent the actions of all Arab Americans. Lillian Garcia is wearing a Peurto Rican flag dress tonight as it’s WWE’s Puerto Rico debut. Jerry “The King” Lawler makes his entrance and is joined by Good Ol’ JR on the stage. The fans chant for King
MUHAMMED HASSAN
VS. JERRY LAWLER
WWE New Year’s Revolution 2005 (9th January 2005)
They lock up and Mohammed Hassan slams Lawler as Daivari celebrates at ringside. Another lockup leads to Jerry Lawler dishing out Hassan’s receipt. Hassan scoop slams Lawler 5 times in a row, sending him stumbling out of the ring, but he gets back in by the count of 4. They lock up again, Hassan backs Jerry Lawler into the corner, then sends him across the ring. The King gets his boot up, Jerry Lawler explodes out of the corner with a clothesline. Mohammed Hassan bails to the floor and Daivari knocks JR’s hat off his head then hides behind Hassan. This is the 4-minute mark, by the way. Jerry Lawler goes to defend his colleague, hitting Hassan with a right hand and bringing it back into the ring. Jerry Lawler is sent off the ropes into a back elbow, Hassan removes the turnbuckle pad and the referee goes to replace it as Lawler has Hassan in a small package! Jim Ross gets the referee’s attention but Hassan is able to kick out at 2, Lawler goes to see what the fuck just happened and gets shoved into the corner by Hassan. Lawler’s shoulder hits the exposed turnbuckle, Mohammed Hassan stomps the shoulder and covers but Lawler kicks out at 2. Mohammed Hassan puts on the Camel Clutch and Jerry Lawler fights it off. Hassan transitions into a front facelock before Lawler can fight back. Jerry Lawler tries to get to his feet but Hassan cuts him off with a knee to the head.
Mohammed Hassan goes back to the Camel Clutch and wrenches back at the instruction of Daivari. In fact, Daivari is one of the most useful managers I’ve heard in a while. The Camel Clutch is released again, but Hassan keeps on Lawler with boots. Hassan hits a suplex but still only gets 2, he puts Lawler in a cobra clutch on the mat, but Jerry Lawler gets to his feet. He escapes with elbows to the midsection, but Hassan reverses the irish whip and cuts him off with a knee to the gut. Hassan covers for another nearfall but Daivari thinks the match should be over. He loses his shit as Hassan hits a neckbreaker but still can’t put the commentator away. King’s head hits the turnbuckle as the fans chant boring, it’s hard to disagree. Mohammed Hassan knocks Lawler down with right hands in the corner, so the referee backs him away. Somehow this wakes Lawler up and the next right hand starts firing him up, he pulls down the strap and starts fighting back at Mohammed Hassan, knocking him down. JERRY LAWLER HITS A DROPKICK! He climbs to the second rope, hits a fist drop and covers, 1, 2, Hassan kicks out. Jerry Lawler hits a DDT and covers, but Hassan is near the ropes. Daivari puts Hassan’s foot on the rope, stopping the pinfall and Jerry Lawler gives chase around ringside. Daivari is sandwiched between JR and King, so escapes to the ring, Lawler gets his jacket but Daivari escapes unscathed as Mohammed Hassan has recovered in the ring and he hits the Flatliner for the win.
WINNER: MOHAMMED HASSAN
The match went on too long, it should have really been about
half the time (it lasted 10:51 according to Wikipedia). I also don’t think
Lawler had to survive 3 Camel Clutches, which were probably close to 20% of the
match time. Either use it and establish it as a move now or just leave it
until the next night on Raw. Did Lawler need protecting this much? On
PAID TIME! [DUD] 0/10.
