Before the match Chris Jericho is backstage with Todd Grisham, he is ready to beat John Cena for the WWE Championship later tonight. Giving the fans and Eric Bischoff can be proud of. Jim Ross Jonathan Coachman and Jerry “The King” Lawler are on commentary for this match. Eugene makes his way out, with Christie Hemme dressed as his cheerleader. He has Kurt Angle’s Olympic gold medal which he won in the Kurt Angle invitational 25th July episode of Raw. Kurt Angle makes his way out and his pyro goes off late, it almost suited the occasion though.

Kurt Angle knocks Eugene down with a slap, following with clubbing blows and stomps to Eugene on the mat. Angle hits European uppercuts and boots in the corner, the referee backs Angle away after he chokes Eugene with his foot then sends him to the mat. Kurt Angle knocks Eugene down with short-arm clotheslines. Eugene ducks a clothesline and hits a spinebuster, he sets up the Peoples’ Elbow but Angle pops up and drives through him with a clothesline. Angle covers Eugene with a forearm in Eugene’s face and gets a nearfall. Angle follows with right hands until the referee backs him up. Kurt Angle hits a pair of german suplexes and tells the referee he’s covering Eugene with his shin across Eugene’s throat. Eugene starts fighting back and sends Angle into the corner, Kurt Angle avoids the Stinger Splash in the corner and hits another german suplex for a nearfall. Eugene is sent into the mat, Angle chokes him with his boot and spits in Eugene’s face. Eugene is sent into the top turnbuckle, but it seems to psyche him up, he strikes back at Angle with lefts and rights, knocking him back into the ropes. Kurt Angle runs into a Rock Bottom, Eugene covers but Angle kicks out at 2½! Angle counters the Stunner, but Eugene slips out of the back on the Angle Slam, Eugene hits the Stone Cold Stunner! He still can’t get three, so he locks in the Angle Lock but Kurt rolls through and sends Eugene into the middle turnbuckle, he hits the Angle Slam and Kurt brings the singlet straps down. The Angle Lock is locked in for a few seconds before Eugene taps out.
WINNER: KURT ANGLE
This match was what it needed to be. Hearing the crowd boo Angle for beating up Eugene was a strange dynamic. It was largely forgettable and out of the way quickly. [*] 2/10.
After the match, Kurt
Angle sends Eugene out of the ring and brings a chair, standing on it to be
awarded his medals.
